Prices and launch dates of desktop Sandy Bridge CPUs

While specifications of many Sandy Bridge desktop microprocessors were known for quite some time, since July of this year, prices and release dates of these models were unknown until last week. At the end of November Expreview revealed prices and launch dates of all Sandy Bridge-based desktop models. Expreview also published specifications of Pentium CPUs, that will be introduced in February and in the second quarter 2011.

According to Expreview, the first wave of Core i5 and Core i7 Sandy Bridge models will be introduced on January 9, priced from $177 for Core i3-2300 to $317 for Core i7-2600K. All upcoming microprocessors from Core i5 family will include 4 CPU cores, and feature 6 MB level 3 cache and Turbo Boost technology. Core i7 CPUs will incorporate larger 8 MB L3 cache, and add HyperThreading technology. January 9 launch includes the following models:

In February, Intel will release Core i3 Sandy Bridge microprocessors. These parts will have only two cores and 3 MB L3 cache, although they will come with HyperThreading feature. Main advantage of these models is lower price and lower power consumption. The following processors will be introduced on February 20, 2011:

ModelCoresFrequencyTurbo FrequencyL3 cacheHyperThreadingTDPPrice
Core i3-2390T22.7 GHz3.5 GHz3 MBYes35 Watt$195

Core i3-210023.1 GHzN/A3 MBYes65 Watt$117

In addition to more powerful Core-branded processors, Intel prepares 4 budget Pentium models. All Pentiums will have two CPU cores and 3 MB L3 cache, and lack any advanced technologies, such as HyperThreading or TurboBoost. Low-power Pentium G620T will be launched on February 27, while remaining three CPUs will be released in the second quarter 2011:
