Intel discontinues Pentium, Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad CPUs

Last October, we published a story detailing upcoming discontinuation of many Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad microprocessors, and two Pentium Dual-core models. Yesterday Intel published Product Discontinuation Notifications (PDN), that provide End-of-Life milestone dates for these CPUs. According to the PDNs, the following desktop microprocessors are going to retire:

  • Pentium Dual-Core E5400 and E6500
  • Core 2 Duo E7400, E8400, E8500 and E8600
  • Core 2 Quad Q8300, Q8400, Q8400S, Q9500, Q9505, Q9505S, Q9550, Q9550S and Q9560
  • Core i5-750

Several discontinued processors will be transitioned to Embedded Group, and will still be available for embedded market. These models are Pentium Dual-Core E6500, Core 2 Duo E7400 and E8400, and Core i5-750.

Last order date for all discontinued desktop CPUs is August 26, 2011. OEM (tray) parts will be shipped until February 10, 2012, while the boxed CPUs are going to be shipped while supplies last.

In the second quarter 2011 Intel plans to publish PDNs for another 5 desktop microprocessors, that will be End-Of-Lifed in the 4th quarter 2011:

  • Celeron Dual-Core E3300
  • Pentium Dual-Core E5500 and E6600
  • Core 2 Duo E7500 and E7600
