Intel mobile CPUs to launch in June 2011

In the past few months, we published several stories detailing soon to be released Sandy Bridge mobile microprocessors. The stories referred to budget Celeron and Pentium CPUs, mainstream Core-branded processors for mid-class laptops, and ultra low voltage (ULV) 2nd generation Core chips for thin and light notebooks. Using notebook product availability dates, our sources, and information, previously disclosed by Fudzilla, we came up with a list of processors that will be launched this month. The list includes ULV Celeron 847, embedded Celeron 847E and B810E, Pentium B940, embedded Core i3-2330E and i3-2340UE, and ULV Core i5-2557M, i7-2637M and i7-2677M. Celeron B710 and B800 CPUs may be introduced either this month, or in September. We don't know launch dates for Pentium B950, Core i3-2330M / i3-2350M, and Core i5-2430M, although it's quite possible that one or more of these models will be released this month.

Two planned ultra-low power Celerons are consumer 847 and embedded 847E models, both having 1.1 GHz core frequency and 17 watt TDP. Main difference between them is in added support for ECC memory to Celeron 847E. Another embedded SKU, B810E operates at 1.6 GHz and fits 35 Watt thermal envelope. Standard features of these Celeron microprocessors are 2 MB level 3 cache, basic set of technologies from Execute disable bit to Virtualization, and instruction set extensions from MMX to SSE3.

Single-core Celeron B710 and dual-core B800 may or may not be launched in June. These two chips run at 1.6 GHz and 1.5 GHz respectively. We received contradicting information, with one source hinting on June, and another source claiming September launch date.

Also in June, Intel will introduce the first Pentium mobile processor, based on Sandy Bridge core. The B940, clocked at 2 GHz, is faster than existing or upcoming mobile Celerons, although it is almost identical to dual-core Celeron CPUs in all other aspects. This processor appeared in specifications of Fujitsu products in End User Reference Price List (PDF file), which conveniently included availability dates for some notebooks. The earliest availability date of laptops with this CPU was June 20, therefore we suspect that the Pentium B940, and many other mobile chips referenced by this story, will be released before or on June 20, i.e. next week. Second upcoming Pentium B950, which is clocked 100 MHz higher than the B940, could be launched later this year.

Core i3 family will be updated with two embedded CPUs, Core i3-2330E and i3-2340UE. The former is a 2.2 GHz model with 35 Watt TDP, while the latter is a 1.3 ultra-low voltage microprocessor with twice lower TDP. Both SKUs support Hyper-Threading technology and 256-bit AVX instructions, and have increased 3 MB size of L3 cache, compared to Celerons and Pentiums.

Two mainstream mobile chips, Core i3-2330M and i3-2350M, may also be added to the i3 line-up in June. These microprocessors, clocked at 2.2 GHz and 2.3 GHz respectively, are incremental upgrades to i3-2310M.

Another unconfirmed candidate for June launch is Core i5-2430M. This 35 Watt part has 2.4 GHz clock rate, that can be raised up to 3 GHz when Turbo Boost feature is enabled.

Finally, high-performance Core families, i5 and i7, will be refreshed with three 17 Watt processors: Core i5-2557M, Core i7-2637M and i7-2677M. These CPUs operate at 1.7 GHz - 1.8 GHz base frequencies, and have maximum turbo frequency in the 2.7 GHz - 2.9 GHz range. Core i7 processors also boast larger 4 MB L3 cache. June release date for these SKUs was disclosed by Fudzilla earlier this month.
