Intel to discontinue socket 1156 "K" CPUs, embedded chips

A few days ago, Intel published Product Change Notifications (PCN) documents, where it disclosed plans to discontinue several socket 1156 processors in 2012. Core i5-760, as well as two unlocked "K" models, Core i5-655K and Core i7-875K, will be available for order until February 24, 2012. The last shipment date for OEM versions of these CPUs is August 10 of the next year, and the boxed versions will be shipped until supplies last.

Last week, Intel also announced discontinuation of a large number of embedded microprocessors. As you may know, embedded parts are supported for much longer periods of time than consumer CPUs, therefore it's not surprising to find on the list of retired products such models as Pentium III-S 1.4 GHz, or Mobile Celeron 400 MHz. Ten CPUs, listed below, can be ordered until Jan 27, 2012, and they will be shipped until July 27, 2012:

  • Celeron M 600 MHz
  • Mobile Celeron 400 MHz and 650 MHz
  • Pentium 4 641
  • Pentium III 800MHz-S
  • Pentium M 738
  • Xeon 5150, L5335, X5355 and X5365

The last order date for the embedded microprocessors below is July 30, 2012, and the last shipment date is Jan 28, 2013:

  • Celeron M 530, 550 and 573
  • Mobile Celeron 733 MHz, 1 GHz and 1.2 GHz
  • Mobile Pentium 4-M 1.7 GHz
  • Pentium III 933MHz-S and 1.4GHz-S
  • Xeon 5128
