Gigabyte reveals AMD FX-Series specificationsAs you may already know, later this quarter AMD is going to launch Bulldozer micro-architecture, that at first will be used in server Opteron 6200 CPUs, and desktop FX-Series microprocessors. Specifications of desktop FX-Series were known for more than a month, and they recently were confirmed by Gigabyte. As was discovered by VR-Zone, the latest CPU support list update for several Gigabyte socket AM3+ motherboards includes the details on all AMD FX-Series SKUs: FX-Series model numbers are less confusing than AMD A-Series, that is it's easy to figure out the number of cores based on the model number. AMD FX-41xx line consists of quad-core processors, FX-61xx line is comprised of 6-core CPUs, and FX-81xx subfamily has processors with 8 cores. Each Bulldozer core has dedicated 1 MB L2 cache, and all SKUs from FX-Series have 8 MB L3 cache. The FX microprocessors are clocked from 2.8 GHz for FX-8100, and up to 3.6 GHz for FX-4100 and FX-8150. Preliminary reports indicated that all parts will have Turbo Core technology incorporated, and turbo frequency on many models will be close to, or exceed 4 GHz. Also, all processors will come with unlocked core frequency multiplier. The microprocessors will work in socket AM3+ and some socket AM3 boards, and will be incompatible with socket AM2 and AM+ motherboards. Please see the table below for a summary of CPU features:
Prices for FX chips are not known at this time, although it was rumored that the flagship FX-8150 model will cost around $300. The FX-Series chips are expected to launch on September 19, and it may take a few weeks for the CPUs to appear in retail stores. Update (Sep 8): Information about FX-Series processors was removed from Gigabyte websitite. Related News
