Intel Celeron B840 and new Core i7 CPUs are launchedToday Intel launched 11 desktop Sandy Bridge microprocessors for budget and mid-class desktop PCs. Prices and details of these chips appeared in official price list, that was updated today. In addition to desktop products, Intel also introduced 5 mobile processors, Celeron B840, and Core i7-2640M, i7-2760QM, i7-2860QM and i7-2960XM. All 5 CPUs feature higher clock frequencies in comparison with existing models. New quad-core Core i7s are i7-2960XM Extreme with unlocked multiplier, i7-2860QM and i7-2760QM. Extreme Edition 2960XM operates at 2.7 GHz, and up to 3.7 GHz when Turbo Boost is enabled, and it has quite high 55 Watt Thermal Design Power. This processor costs $1096. Core i7-2860QM, priced at $568, has lower 45 Watt TDP, slower 2.5 GHz stock clock speed, and 3.6 GHz maximum boost frequency. The Core i7-2760QM with 2.4 GHz stock and 3.5 GHz maximum Turbo Boost speed has $378 price tag. Core i7-2640M is 100 MHz faster than i7-2620M SKU, that was launched in January. The 2640M has two cores, 4 MB L3 cache, HyperThreading and Turbo Boost technologies, and it fits 35 Watt power envelope. Official price for this model is $346. Mobile Celeron B840 is clocked almost 20% higher than its predecessor, B810. The Intel B840 comes with two cores, 2 MB cache, and very basic set of technologies.
