Intel cuts prices of energy-efficient desktop CPUs
Last month we reported that in September Intel is going to cut prices of energy-efficient desktop microprocessors from second-generation Core i5 and i7 families. Expected price reductions were minor, $12 at most. Yesterday Intel launched 16 new desktop and mobile CPUs, and revised the prices of all mid- and low-power "S" and "T" processors:
The price of Core i7-2600S was dropped by $12, from $306 to $294. The biggest price drop in Core i5 family was for Core i5-2500S and i5-2500T models. They are now cheaper by $11. The biggest relative price reduction, 5.6%, was for Core i5-2390T and Core i5-2400S. Core i5-2405S now costs $201 in 1K quantities:
From all above mentioned models, only Core i5-2400S and i5-2405S are sold as boxed CPUs. Boxed Core i3-2600S can be pre-ordered from a a few US online stores, but it's not in stock yet.
