Embedded Xeon E5-2600 CPUs in Q4 2011At the end of August we published information on 17 upcoming microprocessors from Xeon E5-2600 series, aimed at server market. One of these processors, Xeon E5-2620, will be also offered for embedded applications. In addition to E5-2620, Intel is going to release two chips, E5-2648L and E5-2658, specifically for embedded market. The new Xeons will be launched in the 4th quarter 2011. Both Xeon E5-2648L and E5-2658 have 8 CPU cores, and they can simultaneously execute up to 16 threads with the help of Hyper-Threading technology. The chips incorporate 20 MB L3 cache, and support many advanced Sandy Bridge features, including AES instructions and Trusted Execution technology. The CPUs are packaged in an LGA package, compatible with socket 2011 motherboards. Xeon E5-2648L is clocked at 1.8 GHz, and it features reduced 70 Watt Thermal Design Power. The characteristics of this model seems identical to E5-2650L, and, as we suspect, the differences are in the maximum Turbo Core frequency, or in supported features. Xeon E5-2658 with 2.1 GHz core frequency fits right between 2 GHz E5-2650 at and 2.2 GHz E5-2660 models. This SKU has 95 Watt TDP. Specification of two new processors, as well as the specs of Xeon E5-2620, are presented in the table below:
