AMD FX-4100 is available for pre-order

Several consumer processors, based on upcoming Bulldozer microarchitecture, are coming in the 4th quarter 2011. The microprocessors from FX-Series will be aimed at computer enthusiast market, and will feature 4, 6 or 8 cores, and unlocked clock multiplier. Rumored official prices for three of these models, FX-6100, FX-8120 and FX-8150, were published last week, and they range from $175 to $245. It was also reported that quad-core FX-4100 will be available later this quarter, but no official pricing was provided. In the past few days, that CPU appeared for pre-order in several US online stores.

Provantage has OEM (tray) version of FX-4100 for $179. The same tray version is listed on for $189.88, and we can use this number to estimate approximate launch price of the processor. Earlier in September, we published pre-order prices of AMD FX-Series CPUs in shopblt store. At the time, boxed FX-6100 was listed for $188. Considering that official price of the FX-6100 is rumored to be $175, and that pre-order prices of OEM and box versions of FX- and A- series chips are about the same, we estimate that official price of the FX-4100 will be close to $175, and fall into $170 - $180 range.

Interestingly enough, the stores do not have boxed version on pre-order. It could be a sign that initially the chip will be offered only in OEM systems. This is indirectly confirmed by the fact that the FX-4100 is the only CPU from FX-Series, which already surfaced in OEM desktop systems. The CPU will be shipped in Aspire M3450 desktop PC with model number PT.SHDP2.001. Fujitsu ESPRIMO P705 E85+ computer will support (PDF file) several socket AM3 CPUs, as well as the FX-4100.

Update (Oct 9): The shop revised FX-4100 price, and it's now significantly lower than before. Provantage now lists this processor for $120.68, and Bottom Line Telecommunications has it on pre-order for $130.20. Based on new information, estimated official price could in the $110 - $120 range, i.e. comparable to current Phenom II X4 840 and Phenom II X4 955 prices.
