New upgradeable Core i3-2332M CPU spottedEarlier this year Intel launched three upgradeable microprocessors with Sandy Bridge core. Mobile Core i3-2312M, desktop Core i3-2102 and Pentium G622 CPUs had exactly the same features as Core i3-2310M, i3-2100 and Pentium G620 respectively. However, their performance could be boosted for a price via electronic "Upgrade" procedure. The procedure, that doesn't require any physical contact with the chip, enables higher processor frequencies, and, in some cases, larger L3 cache size. Last month Intel released Pentium G632, and at the time we suspected that the G632 could be the forth CPU from upgradeable series. Recently Intel published additional documents, that detail upgrade benefits for all aforementioned models. The documents confirm upgradeability of the Pentium G632, and reveal new microprocessor, Core i3-2332M. Intel Core i3-2332M is a dual-core mobile processor, capable of handling 4 threads at once. The CPU has 3 MB level 3 cache, and it integrates HD 3000 graphics. Presumably, the chip is clocked at 2.2 GHz. Once upgraded, it operates at 2.6 GHz, has 4 MB L3 cache and it is recognized as Core i3-2394M. Pentium G632 chip, that was added to Intel ARK product database in September, is also referenced in one of new documents (PDF file). The processor runs at 2.7 GHz and has 3 MB L3 cache. Upgraded Pentium has processor number G694, and operates at 3.3 GHz. "Intel Processor Performance Upgrade User Guide", linked above, references only processor numbers before and after upgrade. Processor Performance Upgrades (PDF file) document describes what features are enabled on Pentiums, desktop Core i3s and mobile Core i3 CPUs. We used this information to confirm clock frequencies and L3 cache size of upgraded models, which we presented in the table below:
