AMD Radeon HD 7950 Pre-Order Pricing

AMD Radeon HD 7950 graphics cards have shown up for pre-order on a number of websites. In line with our previous article detailing the expected specs, all models have 3 GB GDDR5 running at 5000 MHz, with 384-bit bandwidth, with 1.5 GB models expected later. There are 1792 Stream Processors. The cards require one 150W (8-pin) PCI-E power connection and one 75W (6 pin) connector. All the cards have 1 x DVI-I, HDMI, 2x Mini DisplayPort, and double slot coolers.

Several vendors in the USA and Europe have listed pre-order pricing for the new cards. In the USA, Provantage have listed a "Gigabyte GV-R795WF3-3GD HD 7950 3072MB DDR5 384BIT PCI Express DVI/HDMI/2XMINI- DisplayPort" for $481.58. Polish vendor techplanet have a Gigabyte GV-R795W3-3GD HD7950 3GB DDR5/384bit DVI/HDMI/mDP PCI-Express listed for 2053 PLN (approx $635/€484). Atelco.de had an XFX card listed for €419, but it is no longer showing up in a site search. In the UK, overclock.co.uk are listing "3072MB GDDR5 AMD ATI Radeon HD 7950 DVI-I HDMI Mini DisplayPort, PCI-E Retail" for £435 (approx $685/€517).

Provantage doesn't list a speed for GV-R795WF3-3GD. GV-R795W3-3GD is listed at 900 MHz, and the generic card at overclockers.co.uk is listed as "up to 800 MHz".

The Radeon HD 7950 is expected to be available on January 31. Expect to see lower prices once the cards are available.

I'm not someone who has any need for high end graphics chips, but looking at the specs just blows me away. Take yourself back in time just 5 or 10 years and see how far we've come.

Heck, when I was young, I was programming on an IBM mainframe that probably has less power than my iPhone.

Sometimes it's worth just stopping to appreciate the little things.
