AMD releases details of FX-8150 liquid coolerTwo AMD FX unlocked microprocessors with unusual "WOF" prefix are now available for pre-order in US online stores. Boxed FX-8120 and FX-8150 SKUs with part numbers FD8120FRGUWOX and FD8150FRGUWOX have a unique feature for production processors: they come with liquid cooling, which allows CPUs to reach higher overclock frequencies and/or achieve better system stability when overclocked. The liquid cooling is not cheap though, and pre-order prices for two FX models are $100 - $150 more expensive than air-cooled versions of the same chips. We don't know release dates of WOF models, although there is one fact that tells us that the release is not too far off. In the last two days AMD published AMD Liquid Cooling document (PDF file) with details on liquid cooler for FX-Series processors. The document touts the liquid cooler as "Best-in-Class", supporting such features as quiet fans, high-flexibility tubing, and maintenance-free operation for 50,000 hours. The cooler is said to work with AMD FX-8150 processors, as well as AM2, AM2+, AM3 and AM3+ sockets, and supports overclocking up to 4.8 GHz. The liquid cooler comes with system monitoring and control software, that can be used to monitor water temperature, fan and pump speeds and noise level, and to control fan speed response, temperature/speed alerts, and the color of LEDs in pump cap.
