AMD Opteron 4240 and 4276 HE CPUs are in the works

Current generation of AMD server microprocessors was launched last November, when AMD introduced 6200-series chips for quad-socket servers, and 4200-series CPUs for dual-socket systems. In February we reported on impending refresh of 6200-series family, although we suspect that published list of upcoming processors is no longer accurate. In addition to 6200-series CPU, AMD plans to launch a few 4200-series chips, including Opteron 4240 and 4276 HE.

Opteron 4240 is a six-core CPU with 95 Watt TDP. The processor will operate at 3.4 GHz core frequency, or 100 MHz faster than Opteron 4238.

Eight-core Opteron 4276 HE is a 100 MHz faster version of 4274 HE. The 4276 HE will run at 2.6 GHz, and it will be rated at 65 Watt.

Both new SKUs will have 8 MB L3 cache, and will utilize the same B2 revision of the core as currently produced Bulldozer microprocessors. The CPUs should support Turbo Core technology, however we don't have information on maximum Turbo core frequencies. Launch date and prices of these processors are not yet known.
