AMD Partners working on HD 7970 X2

AMD's add-in board manufacturers will be producing a Radeon HD 7970 X2 graphics cards, with 2 full Tahiti XT cores, according to an article at DonanimHaber.com. We have already known about an HD 7990 which is expected soon (rumors are that it will be launched at Computex, in a few days), which we first reported on in March, and at first sight the specs seem pretty much the same.

We don't know yet what the specs for the new card will be, but with the 7990 reference speeds being 75 MHz lower than those for the 7970, I think it's safe to assume the 7970 X2 will operate at 7970 speeds (and possibly even at GHz speeds, if recent news about a speed increase for the 7970 are true). What is certain is that all models that reach the retail market will have custom designs.
