Intel to refresh Celeron and Pentium lineup in Q3Last week we published details of two unreleased Pentium G2100T and G2120 desktop processors. The microprocessors are coming in September 2012, and they will be the first Pentiums, built on Ivy Bridge microarchitecture. What's interesting is that simultaneously with the release of these chips Intel is going to introduce new Sandy Bridge desktop models: G645 and G645T. Also in September, Celeron family will be updated with new G465, G550T and G555 SKUs. All 5 microprocessors will be available in the second week of September, which starts on September 2nd. Part numbers of Pentium G645, Celeron G465 and G550 CPUs were spotted on Intel website in June, however their specifications are still not confirmed. Originally, we suspected that the chips may run at the same frequencies as Celeron G460, G550 and Pentium G640, but have slightly faster GPU. We're no longer sure if this is true. The Pentium G645 and G645T SKUs are supposed to substitute G640 and G640T, and Celeron G465, G550T and G555 are planned as a replacement for G460, G540T and G555. As such, it would make more sense if new processors offered at least a small performance boost in non-graphics applications, therefore we believe that the new chips will also have slightly higher clock speeds. IB Celeron
Is it my understanding the Celerons mentioned here are still Sandy Bridge.
If so when can we look for IB Celeron? Hopefully by the end of the year?
IVB desktop Celerons are not going to be released until the second quarter 2013, and even the Q2 of the next year is questionable.
