Details of Core i7-3740QM, i7-3840QM and i7-3940XM CPUsIntel plans to refresh mobile performance lineup with three new "Ivy Bridge" chips later this year. Core i7-3740QM, i7-3840QM and i7-3940XM are going to replace i7-3720QM, i7-3820QM and i7-3920XM, that were launched back in April. New SKUs were first spotted on Intel website, but so far we didn't have reliable information about their launch date and clock speeds. We recently learned that the CPUs will be available in the Q4 2012. We also found processors' details in a user's manual (PDF file) of EUROCOM P370EM Scorpius notebook. Based on preliminary information, three new mobile SKUs will have higher core frequencies than their predecessors. Core i7-3940XM will be the fastest Intel mobile chip. This CPU is clocked at 3 GHz, and it can be overclocked to achieve even better performance. The i7-3940XM has 8 MB L3 cache, and supports DDR3-1600 memory. The downside of this model is high power consumption. The processor is rated at 55 Watt TDP. Core i7-3840QM has 2.8 GHz stock frequency. Performance-wise, it fits right between Core i7-3820QM and i7-3920XM. This SKU also has lower 45 Watt TDP, and it's supposed to have clock multiplier locked. Although both Intel i7-3740QM and i7-3820QM operate at 2.7 GHz, the 3740QM is expected to have slightly lower performance due to smaller size of L3 cache. The 3740QM still should be a few percent faster than the i7-3720QM, owing to 100 MHz increase in clock speed. This model also fits into 45 Watt TDP. We believe that other specifications of forthcoming Core i7s will be identical to existing i7 chips. That is, they will have 4 CPU cores, HD 4000 graphics, support Hyper-Threading, and incorporate all Ivy Bridge extensions to instruction set, including AES and AVX. Core i7-3740QM and i7-3840QM will be available in BGA and PGA packages, whereas the 3940XM will be produced only in socket G2-compatible PGA package. The processors will be launched in the last week of September, that starts on September 30. Known specifications of Core i7 CPUs are provided below:

New Intel Ivy Bridge Processors
Was about to pull the trigger on new laptop from HP, but now think it might be a good idea to wait until this refresh occurs. I would presume that the 2.7 Ghz (lowest end of the three rumored new i7's) will be the standard option in the HP dv 7tqe notebooks whereas currently you have to pay extra to upgrade from 2.3 to 2.6 i7. Any idea on when these processors will make it into OEM lineups?
When's the OEMs refreshing their lineups?
I was wondering the same thing. Hasn't happened yet. If I'm going to drop some dough on a new laptop, and if Intel is going to announce some new processors, you'd think they'd have those chips available for sale within a month.
I too was thinking about buying the same hp dv 7tqe, but in looking closer at the numbering I think the base model will be the same. With the first refresh upgrade to the 2.7 and the second to the 2.8. The current bottom level is the 3610 at 2.3 and this article doesn't,t indicate that it is also being refreshed. Then again you never know.
