Prices of upcoming AMD FX microprocessors
Less than a week left before the launch AMD FX processors with "Vishera" core. The new processors will be faster than older "Zambezi" CPUs, although it remains to be seen by how much. The performance will be one of the factors determining success of new products. Another factor will be how well they are positioned against Intel Core i3/i5 lineups, and against AMD's older FX models, and this directly relates to their pricing. Initial pre-order prices of FX CPUs didn't look exciting, as some SKUs were $60 - $90 more expensive than their Zambezi counterparts. Today our reader "zaheer" alerted us that one of US stores significantly dropped pre-order prices, bringing them to more reasonable level. At the same time VR-Zone published approximate official prices of FX microprocessors.
According to VR-Zone, the flagship FX-8350 SKU will cost $199. This processor has 8 CPU cores, 8 MB L3 cache, and 125 Watt TDP. It operates at 4 GHz, i.e. 400 MHz higher than FX-8150, but the maximum Turbo Core speed on both chips is the same 4.2 GHz.
Another 8-core part, FX-8320, will be priced at $175. The only difference of this processor from FX-8350 is lower stock and Turbo Core frequencies.
AMD FX-6300 and FX-4300 will have $135 and $125 official prices. The former CPU has 6 cores and 3.5 GHz clock speed, while the latter is a quad-core model with 4 GHz operating frequency and 4 MB L3 cache.
The prices, provided by VR-Zone, are approximate. They did look real to us once we compared them with the latest pre-order prices from ShopBLT online store. As we already mentioned, the store recently updated pricing of several FX SKUs, slashing some of them by as much as $60. It's curios that the new pre-order prices look very close to the prices, posted by VR-Zone, which indirectly confirms their report:
Based on the price, the FX-4300 and FX-6300 CPUs will be positioned against Core i3-3220 and i3-3240, and the FX-8320 and FX-8350 processors will be positioned against Core i5-3350P and i5-3550.
