Yesterday Motorola Mobility announced MT788 smartphone for Chinese market, featuring the latest Intel Atom microprocessor. The smartphone comes with 4.3" Corning Gorilla Glass display with resolution 960 x 540, 4 GB ROM, front-facing video chat camera, as well as 8 megapixel camera on the back of the phone. The rear-facing camera supports a number of picture modes, including HDR, Night Vision and Multi-Shot. Also, the MT788 phone reportedly has micro-SD slot, and 1735 mAh battery. Motorola MT788 is based on Intel Atom Z2480 microprocessor, codenamed Penwell. Intel does not publish full specifications of this SKU, therefore we don't have all details about it. Atom Z2480 is implemented as a System on a Chip (SoC). It contains one Atom Satwell core with 512 KB L2 cache, and PowerVR SGX 540 GPU, clocked at 400 MHz. The CPU core has Hyper-Threading technology enabled, and also supports Burst feature, than can raise processor frequency up to 2 GHz. We don't have confirmed information on SoC's base frequency and power consumption. Feature-wise, Atom Z2480 looks like a faster version of Z2460 model, that was launched in January.
