Intel Celeron 2980U and Core i5-4300U CPUs to launch in September

Intel will be launching more mobile Haswell microprocessors this fall, just in time for the holiday season. All in all, the company will introduce 25 new SKUs, ranging from Celeron 2950M and 2955U, and up to Core i7-4600M and i7-4960HQ. At this time we do not have specifications of all of these parts, but we found details on upcoming Celeron 2980U and Core i5-4300U ultrabook processors.

Celeron 2980U is going to be a faster version of the 2955U, that we reported on last month. This dual-core CPU runs at 1.6 GHz, and by our calculations should perform between the Celeron 1017U and 1037U. Like all latest mobile Celerons, the 2980U has two cores, 2 MB L3 cache, and support for SIMD instructions up to SSE4. The CPU does not support AES or AVX instructions. The chip integrates HD graphics, clocked at 200 MHz, with a maximum Turbo frequency of 1 GHz. On-chip memory controller works with DDR3-1600, and the TDP is 15 Watt.

Being a Core i5 processor, the i5-4300U is a much more capable in single- and multi-threaded tasks, 3D programs and games than the 2980U. The 4300U has 1.9 GHz base operating frequency, and incorporates a number of performance improving features, such as a Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz, Hyper-Threading technology, larger 3MB L3 cache, and much more powerful HD 4400 GPU. The CPU supports AES and AVX instructions, and also provides support for VT-d and TXT technologies. The GPU on the i5-4300U runs at 200 MHz, and can be boosted up to 1.1 GHz. Like the 2980U, the 4300U supports DDR3-1600 memory and fits into 15 Watt thermal envelope.

Both chips integrate Platform Control Hub functionality, and come in a BGA package. Intel roadmap places their launch at the beginning of Q4 2013. Perhaps, more accurate launch date would be September 1, 2013, that was reported by VR-Zone hardware new site back in July. The summary of Celeron and Core i5 specifications is below:
