In September we reported that newer boxed versions of FX-9000 extreme microprocessors will soon be available bundled with a liquid cooling kit. Launched in June, the FX-9370 and FX-9590 packed 8 cores, 8 MB of L2 and 8 MB of L3 cache on a chip. The processors run at very high 4.4 and 4.7 GHz clock rates, and can reach even higher 4.7 and 5 GHz frequencies when a Turbo Core feature is activated. Since the FX-9370 and FX-9590 are effectively overclocked siblings of the FX-8350 model, they dissipate significantly more power and require a liquid cooling kit to operate, which prompted the release of boxed products with the kit included. The high TDP is also a reason why these SKUs are compatible only with a select few socket AM3+ motherboards.
The 9370 and 9590 CPUs with the kit received FD9370FHHKWOX and FD9590FHHKWOX part numbers, and they are now available from NewEgg.com:
The most pleasant surprise is their prices. The FX-9370 is offered for $290. The FX-9590, which sold for $900 - $1000 just a few months back, is now priced at $390. AMD FX-9590 without the fan and the kit is listed by NewEgg for $350, therefore paying extra $40 for a liquid cooling set seems like a good deal.
