Intel recently completed transition of Xeon E5 and E7 families to one-generation old Ivy Bridge architecture, and the company is hard at work on the next generation processors, built on the latest Haswell microarchitecture. Similar to Ivy Bridge server lineup, "Haswell" processors will be branded as Xeon E5 and Xeon E7, but their suffix will change from "v2" to "v3". Intel is also going to release new Xeon E3 "Haswell" SKUs, and eventually introduce the next generation E3 microprocessors, utilizing Broadwell architecture.
Xeon E3-1200 v3 family for single-socket workstations will be refreshed in Q2 2014. Intel plans to launch 11 Xeon E3 "Haswell" SKUs. The CPUs will be clocked 100 - 200 MHz higher than the E3-1200 v3 products, launched last year.
At the end of Q3 2014 we will see a new Grantley-EP platform, that will feature the third incarnation of Xeon E5-2600 server microprocessors, coupled with C610 series chipset. The E5 v3 processors will utilize Haswell-EP core, and use socket LGA2011-3. Some improvements on these chips will include AVX2 and TSX instructions, quad-channel DDR4 memory controller. Xeon E5-1600 v3 CPUs will be also available in Q3 2014.
The fist quarter of 2015 will be busy for Intel, for as they are planning to launch Xeon E7 v3, Xeon E5-4600 v3, Broadwell-based Xeon E3, and possibly Xeon E3-2400 v3 CPUs.
The Xeon E7 v3 "Haswell-EX" products are aimed at enterprise systems with up to 8 CPU sockets. They will use "Jordan Creek 2" Scalable Memory Buffers and C602J chipset.
The E5-4600 v3 series is expected to have the same features as the E5-2600 v3 family, however it will scale up to 4 sockets. The CPUs will be paired with C610 chipset.
Details of the "Broadwell" Xeon E3 processors are very scarce at this time. Based on preliminary information, at least a few SKUs will be available with GT3e graphics, and the rest of the lineup will have GPU disabled.
We have conflicting information about the E5-2400 v3 series. One source provides Q1 2015 launch for the series, and another states that they will not be released until at least Q2 2015.
