|

Just registered . Has been collecting since around 2005 and visiting cpu-world for reference ever since I found the site. Great place.
So a silly question: I have many CPUs and I don't have a decent way to store and showcase them. These are not your average processors that fit inside of pentium-1 trays. The smaller ones like 286, 68010 or dips such as 8088, 6502, Z80 etc and some surface mount (desoldered) 386sx's are taking a lot of my limited cardboard box spaces and I'm overflown with recent CPU traded from all over the world (literially from many European countries, Canada and US). I have over 100 cpu trays but all one size, best for pent, amd k5/6/7, pIII, etc. I even bought pentium-pro trays .
So how do you real collectors store and showcase your collections?
BTW, I am offering this link I just found to show how sincere I am towards this hobby :

Is this guy any of you? |

Thanks smithy! Looks like typographical drawers or the like will do. I'll see if I can acquire a how cabinet of those drawers |

here you can see my storing. |
Thanks for showing off your awesome collection and storage/display cabinet. Oh, for the pictures where only focus is good in the middle (angle shots), if you do "focus stacking" you would get a much better picture.

I've never done it myself but with a manual focus you can do it with a software. |

I'm trying to find a cheap source of anti-static foam and here is what I found:
http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10001_10001_13864_-1
It's already much cheaper than a few other places I found. Any cheaper sources in the USA? Thanks.
BTW, I was reading on that cpu collection sale:
http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17061
The OP has handmade pads for framing the CPUs. I just thougth it's pretty cool. If I could do the same thing but slide the pads in a rack like the ones in IKEA dining area accepting trays, then I can save space with such a tray holder, holding a bunch of pads by their edges (need plastic pads for rigidity). I can then slide them out and show them on a display stand and stow them back in the rack after showing. Think in terms of a jukebox. Discs are stacked together for storage and brought out to be played only on demand. Yeah, I could even build such a moterized arm to bring in and out my cpu "records". One can always dream |

I have about 21 sheets of 10mm thick anti-static foam that is 350mm x 550mm (that's approx 22" x 14" x 3/8"). I can sell you up to 20 (the last one has cat hairs all over it so isn't suitable for selling or storing chips on) for £4 (approx $6.40) per sheet including airmail shipping if you want at least 5 sheets (the easiest and cheapest way for me to ship them is in boxes of 10 sheets, as I can get boxes that fit that many and are just inside the size limits for airmail from the UK).
I sold a lot of the same foam at http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10474, so if you need to know how good the foam is you can read the last couple of pages or ask someone who bought some (of course, I would say it is good as I am selling it). _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

debs,
Thanks for the offer. I am interested. Your link is broken so I couldn't check what people say. So just be clear, this is the high density foam you can press your chips into and the chips will stay put, right? |

So is that a limited access for certain type of member and beyond?
jrmunro, thanks for reply. So I'll PM debs then. Half the price compared to what I found. |
