I have been working out the timeline of the differently packaged & marked Intel 8080s
There are a few non C parts I still need to fit into the timeline but this covers most
hopefully this may aide some collectors _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

This was an interesting 8080 for sale.. congratulations to the forum member who bought.
After putting the 8080 timeline together I suspected that the C8080-8 part was the old part marking for the C8080A
and this 8080 that was remarked by Intel gives credence to this idea
New markings
C8080A R0594
Original Markings
C8080-8 R0394
Malaysia 7505
Unique having both markings and also being the oldest C8080A found
being 9 weeks before any other C8080-8 or C8080A _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

Intel used the letter "R" in the lot code to record that the processor was remarked (also "S" & "T" was used later)
Not sure how Intel removed the old markings, but sometimes the old markings are still present, be it faint
What is real interesting is that the original markings are also remarked markings
seeing it is 9 weeks before any C8080-8 & C8080A there is a good chance this unit was originally marked as a ES for the new revised 8080A core _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

Could the S1283 be sSpec ID listed? |

Wow, that's pricey.
When I was in college, one evening an Intel guy came to give a talk. Afterwards he sold us those kits out of the trunk of his car for $20 a piece.
I bought three of them:
My roommate and I built a working "computer" with one of them. Over the summer vacation he had an accident with the power supply and fried all the chips.
The second one I sent back home to a friend who was still in high school. He cobbled together something with it.
The third one I still have, although some of the original "CS" marked chips were robbed out of it over the years and then later replaced with non-CS.

Yeah. It seems like a pretty high price for the set, doesn't it?
It's interesting to see results like these from the big auction houses. It could indicate that the interest in vintage chip collecting is becoming more "mainstream".
Seems like you could easily get your 60$ back from the remaining set if the 8080 is still in it |
