When you finish with i960, go back and get i860
Yes, the board is for sale, but I'll probably get more for scrap value. I have the others from the same server. |

| Look the middle picture (LSI) has gold on the top part of the ceramic... quick, let me list it for $1,000,000. |

I have several flavors of the i960. PGA, BGA, QFP, PLCC. I have a couple i860's but they're harder to come by. |

Hi,
the SGI board belongs to the Reality Engine 2 graphics processor used in the very high-end graphics machine Onyx: it's the Geometry Engine GE-10. It was very powerful (and of course expensive) for its time (1991/2). Sadly the i860XP never performed as well as expected by Intel, so the max floating point power was "limited" to 370/380 MFLOPS. The card was rated by SGI at 450 MFLOPS in single precision. The card is a SIMD (Single Instruction, Multiple Data) engine designed to perform 3D geometry calculations. I see You have the **uncommon** and very nice version with ceramic VLSI Memory Interface chips (one for each i860XP): the "usual" version with plastic PGA is visibile in this page of my website: http://ummr.altervista.org/i860.htm. The architecture is described in this article (referred to the original Reality Engine, with only 8 i860 CPUs): http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~ravir/6160/papers/p109-akeley.pdf. Your board is a true eye-candy! I hope You'll find a collector interested.
