I've recently upgraded my CPU to Athlon 2600 From Duron 1300. My PC has started to reboot occasionally, could be several times during a day. I bought a new heat sink and fun. Did not help. What can I do?

Did you apply thermal paste between HS and CPU?

You have the same problem I had: random reboots over a period of months.

I know you are looking the CPU but I would strongly suggest you look at memory and compatiabilty. Turns out after long and painful troubleshooting I had both a bad chip and a bad simm socket. threw out the memory and left the socket empty and the computer has been working great for several months now.

Thank you all of you guys for your feedback on my problem. I have used to check the CPU temperature after the upgrade. It has been around 54C-62C which I believe is ok. The HS came in with the thermal paste on it and I did not apply any extra. But I thought that if the CPU temperature stays normal, and the CPU core is not damaged, it could be something else. May by this is indeed the memory and compatibility problem.

Test your memory with Memtest86, I had the same problem for a defective Corsair memory module.
