I was wondering if anyone knows why some of the AMD K6-2 500AFX & 533AFX processors i have are marked with an * at the end of the part number.
500AFX* instead of 500AFX
533AFX* instead of 533AFX

i notice Gob, Debs & JMunro list K6-2 parts with a * separately in their collections.

Do any of you know what the star (*) means? Very Happy
Jmunro has a K6-2/333ANZ* which is different from the 500 & 533s listed with stars Surprised

its damn hard searching for something on the web with a * in it Shocked

I don't think anyone ever knew what the * means in those part numbers. If it had ever been posted about here, I would have the info on my website, as the K6 family is one of those that most interests me Smile

I do so because I've noticed that it seems that there is always a 'non star' counterpart for all 'star' ones. So until someone discover what this star means, I keep both Smile

K6/266ADZ* is the only K6 I know with the *, and it exists with both etched and printed text.

was thinking about what the cpus came out of.. there have been quite a few IBM Aptivas.

so had a look and all five of the processors with a star and they all had a IBM part number sticker on the bottom.

Then i looked at my other K6-2s and i found only 2 out of 28 without a star had a IBM part number sticker (these were both 450s).

from now on i will note what puters the star ones come out of, seeing i get the chips first hand. Very Happy

That sounds plausible - the stars were manufacturing runs just for specific OEM partners.

One of my stars has a Compaq sticker.

The other one is an engineering sample with no OEM designation, but you don't expect an ES to be sold, so it doesn't need a sticker.
