As far as I've took part in sales by PM as a buyer and as a seller ... I'm going to poll you.

Yes, it's not an auction. Seller does'n urge you to bid up. But...

Imho this type of sale is really awkward.

when I buy:
1. As compared with Ebay - when I really thirsty for an item... I can bid my max, say $100. If lower bid was $10 I'll take the item for $11.
By PM I'll get it for $100

2. I'm sure it's not fair when one buyer get a chip say for $100 and next lower bidder get the same chip for $80.

3. We are here not to buy chips only. It's really important to know how sellers and buyers price these chips. It helps to value chips at all for future sales/trades...

When I sale:
OK. I've got really nice rare chip and I want to sell it.
I'm timid to ask $100 for it and I start a PM sale.

1. What I have to do if the higher bid, say $50 is less than my cost???

2. What I have to say when I receive something like: "common, we are the friends Smile. Let me know current bid Smile "
I feel at this moment I have a chance to lose all of my friends

Imho the best alternative is:

If you find something awesome hard to value...
Do not hesitate to announce you (high) price.

IMPORTANT! - I think collctors don't have to make offers.
when current price is $100 and my friend offers $50... but I want to offer $60 (and we both will be rejected Smile ) - looks not good.

The seller will down the price every day.
One day someone will buy it Smile
or the seller will stop the sale.

In this case:
We see the current price.
No one will be overbided

What do you think?

I think this poll should be : "Do you like sales with bids over PM : a) YES b) NO"
I'm sorry but there I would vote for NO. You can always ask for high price and get lower offers if not sold. But that is my strategy which is best in my opinion. I do not want to impose you but only show my statement.

Your alternative method, decreasing the price
day by day until someome buys, is a good alternative
but I think how you do it currently it`s also ok!
At least for items nobody knows the
fair price of it is a good way to find out and
it is without price-driving factors.
But it would be nice if everyone could see
the final price after closing to satisfy our curiosity Wink

Yes,
I'm going to publish all the bids w/o bidders names after my PM sale end.

You probably will be surprised but I would vote for NO too.
I tried PM sale/bay and now I don't like it.
I'm talking not about prices I payed/got. It looks I will get an expected price.
Now I see it was better just to sell it as usual.

This is not an auction. Highest bid wins.
Sounds a little contradictory to me. Smile
I tend to agree with Marcin.

I also don`t like PM-bid sales much.
But in Igor`s case with his uncommon
chips I would say it isn`t reprobate!

And here a very stupid example why it
is currently more a trade than an auction:

Following hypothetical scenario:
Igor decided to offer his FPUs allowedly for trade.
Here only two of the thousands of trade-offers:
Someone drags along
a cute Intel 8085 worth $10, Igor
says: No, I`m sorry, no deal.
Now someone shows off with a rusty
C4040 worth $300, Igor rubs his eyes
and says probably -~~>DEAL<~~-!

Evil money offers: Someone offers $10,
you guessed right: no deal.
Now someone offers $300, hehe,
do you see any big difference?

I really dont mind how someone wants to sell somthing like this, I think its fair because if you want the chip then you throw the highest dollar amount you want to spend on it out there and hope you are the highest, if you lose then that should be ok with you as well because you would spend more then youre willing to on it. In my own personal opinion, this chip isnt worth all that much because it is a clone, to me its like buying a chinese made clone of a Ferrari, youre not getting the original ground breaking tech that the original maker has going for it. Performance wise you are but historically significant it is not. And it may be rare but it still doesnt have the clout that an original does. Its a copy, in other words not an original. I mean we make fun of all the Chinese clones of stuff from minibikes to televisions so why would it be any different for a computer chip. Even if it is white.

Yes, Soviets cloned western chips. It's a fact. And it's a history.
These clones are striking illustrations of it.
And I love them Smile

Sometimes clones are better than the original Smile

I think a reverse auction is better in this situation than PMs. Start with a high price...then if no one buys, reduce it each day or every few days. Then it is up to you as to how low you want to go and the "market" either sets the price or you keep it if it doesn't fetch high enough

I'm against offers by PM only. You may as well have a private listing on feebay if you don't want anyone to know who offered what.

I think the "reverse auction" is best as well.

I like good prices for good chips that I sell.
And low prices for good chips that I buy.

lol.

I prefer to ask for good prices and not to sell them.
Then I see I asked too much (maybe just at that time;-)

But I also like to make nice trades.

Trade in chips I'd pay $100 for and give a chip I only paid $5.

The good thing is when the other side does the same and we both have the same good feeling.

Overall not a question that can be answered with a single poll.
