|
|
I have been collecting info on IBM x86 & PPC processors. From over 500 chips logged, I have been able to determine the production dates for about 99% of them
The production code can be found in 2 formats, but there will be some minor variations.
Most common formats > 19520354M, N20135, 1N20135, 1N20L43G2
Uncommon formats > 1N20L43G2, IBM51525140060, F6N39032JH, CY1013
How to Date IBM chips (Year marked in Red Week marked in Blue)
18948002CW > 1989 Week 48
19109000CR > 1991 Week 09
19520354M > 1995 Week 20
IBM51525140060 > 1995 Week 25
CY1029 >> only on late production Cyrix 486/586, so will have Cyrix production code
G3KU533K > 1995 Week 33
Now for codes with a letter in them, we need to know what year each stand for
This is the confirmed letter/date list so far, but take into account age of chip & copyright date as some letter may have been used previously for pre 1992 chips
L = 1992
M = 1993
N = 1994
P = 1995
Q = 1996
R = 1997
T = 1998
U = 1999
A = 2000
B = 2001
C = 2002
D = 2003
E = 2004
F = 2005
So some examples
1L44G35P5 > 1992 Week 40
N11019 > 1994 Week 11
F6N39032JH > 1994 Week 39
1P27005G2 > 1995 Week 27
T06004PAPQ > 1998 Week 06
B281052U > 2001 Week 28
1F46001PQD > 2005 Week 46
So i hope you find this info helpful & i will expand further if i discover anything else _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

Thanks alot for this info.
The NexGen Nx586 and Nx587 was manufactured by IBM too. I looked through the markings I collected (see http://www.memotech.franken.de/NexGen/CPU_markings.html, but it is a bit outdated) and it makes sense: The NexGen chips were made 1994 and 1995 and the letters "N" and "P" accur on most of the chips. Only the Nx586 with big brown heat spreader seems to follow a different, NexGen specific marking.
Notice that the NexGen chips carry two letter/digits groups which match to a date. The first one is a couple of weeks earlier than the second one. Any idea what these two dates could be? A guess: The first one is for the production of the wafer or chip and the second one is for the bonding and packaging? |

As for letters used previously for pre 1992 chips, this is the list of unconfirmed letter/date matchups
D = 1984 ....found on P8088s
E = 1985 .....found on 80286s
F = 1986 ......found on 80286s
I havent found any pre 1992 chips using the letters G, H, I, J or K
Chips I have found so far from 1988 thru to 1991 have been marked using this format 19009006CW _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

thank you
it helps a lot...
i have some mysteric blank 6x86
they come together with the IBM 6x86 C4 sample i got last year
these chip (and the IBM 6x86 C4 sample ) have similar barcode on it
and the bottom wrote
copyright USA
1995 cyrix
" IBM 9314 R16002 88H3467 PQ"
" IBM 9314 R16006 88H3467 PQ"
" IBM 9314 R16011 88H3467 PQ"
" IBM 9314 R16011 88H3467 PQ"
so they were all produced in 16th week of 1997?
thx!

Actually, it starts at 1980 = A, and so on.
This info was posted long time ago on cpu-museum.de's forum if I remember well. _________________ Register on x86-guide.net to manage and share your collection on-line !

Good work! That helps really a lot to date my cpus
| CPUShack wrote: | | yup should |
I think not completely. I got a RSC (RISC Single Chip) clocked at 33 MHz in a RS/6000 Model 220 here. That cpu has the model number 32G9280 (I think, that this is the RSC). The production code is:
1924517260 IBM53 PQ 5S
That CPU should be produced in 1992, because the RS/6000 Mod. 220 was produced in 1992 and the RSC came out around 1992.

Oh, thank you. I haven't seen that . I thought the first letter of your codes was the letter "I".
I got an other CPU where I can't identfy the production date:
IBM25PPC750-4DMA2660 -> Code: 05L2340 A 98019 53
Could that be 1st week 1998?
