I often use Chipdb.org for reference when checking markings on chips.... so I am glad its around Very Happy

I know house-keeping isnt the best thing, but with time it only gets harder. Especially as Thomas handles it all by himself Shocked

But looking at the chips listed, I have come across a few things that would make it hard for the non collector to understand.

Like chips with PR rating & the same speed chip with old part numbering being in separate listings.
For example
Cyrix 6x86-100GP listed in 100MHz http://www.chipdb.org/cat-100-156.htm
Cyrix 6x86-P120+GP listed in 120MHz http://www.chipdb.org/cat-120-157.htm

both have an actual speed of 100MHz Confused

Also where the incorrect speed has been used for a chip. For example i added I added a Intel Pentium III-S RK80530KZ012512 QEL8ES
but didnt realise Hugo had added it already Shocked
as he used 9.5 x 133 = 1.26GHz http://www.chipdb.org/cat-1260-mhz-1228.htm
and i used 9.5 x 133.3 = 1.266GHz http://www.chipdb.org/cat-1266-mhz-873.htm

Im not offering at the moment Laughing but it might be time to get some help before it gets too big a job

Also maybe draft some guide lines to how & where new pics should be added.

Thanks for your efforts mate... chipdb.org is an invaluable tool Very Happy

Thanks for telling me the one thing i feel most bad for about the site! All errors Wink

Blah blah... Deleted a long rant about how hard it is running the site Smile You probably understand. Collecting, sorting, naming, uploading, adding, cropping, resizing, comparing 6000 images manually = ~3-5 min/chip + 1200 categories. (~5% are uploaded by visitors but they still has to be named, checked, sorted and compared manually by me)

The first phase has and is to collect, or perhaps harvest images. Not running a 100% fact checked database over chips. That does another site much better! Wink When the flow of images settles there will of course be a quality improvement and a general discussion with the users how to sort chips. Its not easy when every collector wants to have the images sorted and categorized "their" way. Wink

But, anyone who wants to help i would gladly add as a administrator.

I rather add 300 chips and one are named or sorted wrong than add 10 that are 100% correct. The other problem is that the tool im using is not a database, its a image gallery. The only "data field" i can play with are the image name.

This touches another subject (or project) i have wanted to start for years. Guidelines how to name, describe a chip and its characteristics, quality and so on. To be able to describe in text a chip and its quality. Perhaps to create a list of abbreviations of different characteristics.

Just an example out of my head.

Three rows of printed text = 3RP
1 row of printed text = 1RP
Upside down printing = UDP
Groundstrap right,left = GNDR,GNDL
White print = WP
On cap print = ONCPP

The above is only applicable IF the collecting community (we) collect chips down to this detail. Some don't. For one collector a 486 is a 486, another its a 486 DX2-66 or a A80486DX2-66 SX911, or a A80486DX2-66 SX911 with small cap, or a A80486DX2-66 SX911 with small cap white print or A80486DX2-66 SX911 with small cap white print made in Malaysia or A80486DX2-66 SX911 with small cap white print made in Malaysia on production line 3 by Chee Chok Lian on his 34:th birthday wearing that green shirt.

And after that a shared quality classification... Not sure if this has been done in George Philips work? Perhaps promote sellers to begin using classification instead of "Can you send a pic?"

Oh, long rant anyway... Wink

You missed leg shape on Dips Wink
Yes.. different manufacturers use different shape legs.. Have used it to pick up chips that have been remarked from other chips

Thx again mate.. for a job well done Very Happy

Hmm. Im not sure my site will contain that much more info than already there right now and it would be a total rebuild. My goal right now are to harvest images. I can probably supply images to you, if you get permission from the uploader/owner of the image. I have agreements with the contributors that i will only use them on chipdb.org and without earning money of them. (You have google-ads on your site)

Actually this is not the strategy. I see it more like a open plateform but not distribuable.I can let everyone use the database, but it stays on my website. To use it, you register and then you can enter your collection, add pictures, change the design of the site, the title...etc. In the future, collectors will be able to publish their own articles, their own news... It is even possible to do a chinese version...
Only issue is that the domain name will have ".x86-guide.com" suffix (site name would be "hugo.x86-guide.com" for example).
I think it should be possible to use aliases (i.e. redirect your domain to hugo.x86-guide.com for example), but this is not included in my web package. And if I want it, I have to get a more expensive web package...

Anyway, without the associated php code, the database is almost useless.

That was just an idea, I didn't really think it was actually possible.

At the moment the member.php file has been removed. There seems to be a security issue and i have taken it online until the creators of the gallery have solved it. I forgot to remove the upload function.

If you have any images hold them until upload are running again OR email them to photos@chipdb.org.

Sorry for this!

you may need to remove the ability to post comments, seeing the spammers have been having fun Crying or Very sad

like on this page http://www.chipdb.org/img-ultrasparc-iii-sme-1050a-lga-_-750-mhz-4253.htm

Yupp, there has been spam for a while but i usually can delete it pretty easy since they come in batches. But it has increased recently and i have been lazy deleting... Smile

I will check if there are any mods for the gallery to prevent spam. Except the spam there are many informative comments (many by you), so closing this feature are the last action!

Something seems to be wrong with that email address. Please try to re-send photos to thomas@chipdb.org. This one i tested just now and should work.

Thanks for you contribution!
