Hi all,

I don't have eBay/PayPal account so, I am going to use this opportunity to put one chip on auction here.

Having in mind that it should be special and rare chip I have selected one that I didn't saw on any other website/collection/museum... (my apologizes if I missed someone's collection, especially if he is member here on CPU World)

This is F8 but, it is not Fairchild, it is not Mostek. It's not even ST. It's SGS-Ates. Smile

That (SGS-Ates) was the name of the company at the time when this chip was produced (1978). There are no date code on chip but, I have box (which is not part of the auction) where you can see the date.

After 32 year in box chip is in good condition, it is new, never used, no bent pins, no foam residue on pins... (see pictures).

It is really rare, it is (white, gray traced) beauty, and it is in excellent condition so, I believe it deserves to be sold on auction.

Auction will be finished at:
23.00 CET (GMT+2)
29. 08. 2010

I think that auction can be public. We are not going to deal with millions here... but, I really don't have experience... Please suggest if other way (using PM) would be more appropriate for majority...

Everything else (payment/shipping) will be the same as on my previous sales;

Shipping: at cost. (Registered air-mail, 100gr.)
- EU - 6 Euro
- America/Asia - 7 Euro
- Australia - 8 Euro
********************************************************************************************

Payment:
- From EU, Asia, Australia... other countries, best option (lowest fee) is Moneybookers.
- From US (or if you prefer PayPal) please send the money to John (CPUShack) / AVICC.
********************************************************************************************

Thanks for looking and happy biding.

That was my guess but I was not sure about that (date-code) and I didn't want to state something I am not sure about. Thank you again.

BTW. Do you know what 1P means?

i think "P" from production date and the "1" maybe some plant numbrer orinternal assembly assembly line code...

im still wonder about how much maybe this chip is a real 3850 cpu....or just some custom chips with this number....
any info that proof its original 3850?

It states that SGS-Ates was a second source for these.

Hi Michael,

Well, thank you, I can guess that this, what you sad, is probably close enough... but I am looking for some document, reference...

Something very similar (identical package), from that period, produced by SGS-ATES, I have found on Ivo's (kpt_future) website.

Take a look: http://www.cpupages.com/store/index.php?id_item=1104 and pay attention on second row (identical markings like on my chip "1P818" but for Z80 that he have)

So, here are the facts:
- SGS-ATES have produced this kind of packages.
- You have to see original box and what is written on it.
- I am the one who have found this box and opened it after probably 30+ years. (and have found some other nice stuff too...)

Finally, it is (for me) hard to believe that SGS would produce chip
- with this markings,
- in that kind of package,
- at this time (second half of 70's)...
and that chip is not what it should be.

F8 was very popular chip at that time, and this was the time of some kind of war for CPU market... No, I really don't believe that company like SGS would do something like that.

Hi Chiefish,

Thank you very much. I use cpu-museum.com as reference million times (great website)... but I didn't saw this until you pointed it out. Thanks a lot.

He, he... it is interesting that even there (on cpu-museum website) you cant see the chip. They have Fairchild and Mostek. Seams that this SGS-ATES M 3850 D1 is really really rare.
