Getting a C4004 wasnt how i expected... now i have it .. and it sits there next to P4040 and Romanian MMN8080....

When i start collecting - in 2008-2009 ( http://blogofcedrik.wordpress.com/2009/09/06/colectia-de-procesoare/ ) i was just puttin' togheter some faulty cpus ( leftovers from my service activity )... then another and another... after that i started collecting at a semi-pro level.. buyin', selling, trades... here in Romania.. and after that i found this forum...

In all this time, Holy Grail (C4004) was at millions miles away.... Like God in Heaven... you know He's there, but He's untouchable.... And i had an ultimate target .... My available funds for CPUs are 20-25 usd/ month (and this in a good month)... even a white C8080 which is 70-80 euro was/still is a dream.. but this C4004 was a once in a lifetime opportunity (at that price) ... so i borrowed some money and bought it. (i havent thought how can i'll be able to return the money but thanks to you, i already have half of the money by selling the duplicates i had )...

Somehow was like when you're hungry and start dinner with the desert ... i'm feelin' very confused now... Of course there are many many CPUs to add to collection ( C4040, C8008, C8080, D verions of them, a lot of overdrives, pro's - just to mention some .. ) but i'm in a middle of an intersection and dont know which way should i take .... and when you had the most beautifull girl in a group, the others doesnt look too tempting anymore... Sad

Any of you felt the same way?

The C4004 wears off, its nice, its hot, its sexy, but soon you will realize that there is much more interesting chips, and significant.

That nerdy girl in the corner? yah she's not as pretty, perhaps a bit obscure, but she is more rare, more interesting, and will satisfy you much longer.

Once you've had the hottest girl, you start looking for the ones that truly matter, and there are a lot of them. There are so many CPUs that are historically significant, amazing pieces of silicon, but they get overshadowed by the 4004 or anything Intel, because of what Intel became, not because of what Intel WAS. While the C4004 certain is a beautiful one, she certainly want on the honor roll

It's always the same. If you don't have something then you just want it. And when you have it, you enjoy it for maybe 2-3 days, max. a week and then you'll automatically look for new & other things.

I've experienced this with the NexGen and the Super386. Both were unreachable dreams. Now I'm looking for other things like RapidCad Laughing

That's something natural and the thing that keeps every collector's collection growing Smile

You should be glad you mustn´t search for it anymore. Moreover c4004 is best investment. You can always sell it for better price.

Seriously do I had to have a goal? I don't have one. I don't have c4004 also - it would be nice to have one, but it's not a race. I'll wait and I'll find.
I enjoy every new chip in my collection - not matter what it is. I don't count prices, I know better investment methods.
My only dream or better small goal is to have opportunity to show my collection to the world. Real world, not only via web site or forum. I think my chips are sad when hidden in boxes. And another thing - find collectors close to me and sit with them, from time time, have a beer and talk about our chips Smile

I know that feeling, but luckily, there is always more CPUs to be found. I have taken collecting CPUs as lifetime thing. So there is no end, and no that (bad) feeling. Smile

this is my goal too... to add to colletion any cpu i found (and save them in this way) and oneday to make a museum.. i didnt have a goal to get a C4004 because i never thought that oneday i'll be able to buy it.. it was more like something to dream about... i was just like an ant .. grabbing everything... but somehow C4004 change a lil' bit the whole situation.. obvious i'll continue collecting... but i dont know why this feeling.. and i was curious if anybody else had it in any moment of collecting....

My lack of 'focus' or a goal has allowed me to collect and document some fantastic chips

CPU collection is so attractive because you have many choices.

CPU, FPU, MMU..... too expensive?!

Eprom, RAM, keychain, paperweight.... still out of budget!!

Sticker, poster etc must fit your need, they're cheap but really beautiful.

You can select your own prefer, just remember to keep it fun.

For me, the Holy Grail is a CPU you can't buy even if you put one million dollars on the table. Smile

I guess I am a bit different in that my collection has very specific goals. Some are easier to achieve than others, but once the goals are completed, I will mostly stop collecting and just enjoy reading about other intesting chips that other people have found.
