On that unfinished package, there is a place for a VRM and caps. So, it seems to be a package for an overdrive with a 3.3V die and intended to be used on 5V motherboard

It's a SPGA package. Doesn't match. There is no 5V SPGA motherboard..

Or perhaps a 3.3V->2.8V voltage regulator for connecting a P55C die on a motherboard designed for a P54x ?

Cool mystery Razz

EDIT> seems similar to this sample : http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2023

What is the pinout & die cap size on that one?
standard pentium or OD pinout
guessing larger die cap?

Can't tell exactly. there is a plastic interposer fairly well attached to the CPU and I'm afraid to remove it.

Anyway, it's a gold cap so probably large.

that is also PGA pinout, same as PODP5V63.. so No

seeing MMX should be large die cap
pinout looks standard except some corner pins clipped

by the die date.. production date should of been around 28 1996, so 23 weeks before production MMX ODs Smile
