When I watch all polish CPU auctions I see many where are not original pictures - but with photos from cpuworld.com Sometimes I write to seller with question about law to use someone's goods Razz Today I found best seller who copied all html code Brick wall

http://cgi.ebay.com/Pentium-120MHZ_W0QQitemZ6869347636QQcategoryZ3674QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

He got AWARD for most law-breaker Wink

EDITED : In some case that is plus because site is more popular Wink

BTW I saw some pics from my site too. I was negative and positive surprised at same moment. Laughing

I wouldn't mind at all if someone uses my description.. but I do get mad when people take my pictures or someone elses pictures and use them to sell on ebay. Especially when they take pictures of other ebay items.

Yesterday i installed some new countermeasures against mass/pic downloaders on cpuphotolibrary.com . If someone with a well known downloader tries to reap pics i redirect them to http://www dot r-u-gay dot de and they start to reap that site instead... Twisted Evil

Its done within the Apache web server. If your hoster allows you to use .htaccess files and they have mod_rewrite installed just create a file called .htaccess (yes .htaccess) and paste the contents above.

Edit: ... and place the file in your root directory. (Or the directory you want to protect) It applies to all subdirectories.

I don't mind when people copy description and even pictures from my site, as long as they link to or mention the site name. I don't like when the auctions link to images on my site, but I'm not going after those auctions - in my opinion it's a waste of time.

My thoughts exactly.

Hmm.. I remember I posted about that newer site grabbers can change their HTTP_USER_AGENT, so there is no way to prevent them by using HTTP_USER_AGENT.

The only way I can think of is to ask users to type in a number shown on a randomly displayed graphic.

I know. Most of them has this option, and this is in no way foolprof, but hopfully i can prevent some leeching. I had 3 or 4 visits by such software before i installed the list, and they identfied themselves with a name that would have triggered in the list above.

Since I have several MB traffic every month from directly linked images on ebay auctions I redirect them to a gif saying "the CPU is no longer available for sale, sorry" Smile See here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6853361579 (he later added his own pictures) or here: http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6861152587 (scroll down)
One of the sellers who did this for many auctions now still copies my description page (which is ok for me) but uses cpu-world.com images: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6867965605
