|
|
All,
Just thought I would share some pics I took at the Intel Museum in CA recently. They are large so be patient.
http://www.asmodius.com/intelmuseum
Most of the chips on display were ES, Confidential, or Secret. Don't think I didn't try to wrench them off the wall. Unfortunately, they were quite secure.
As you can see, most of them were under glass however, there is a pic of a 386 ES that fell victim to years of tactile abuse due to lack of protection.
Enjoy…

Wow. Pic 12 and 13: an 1102!
And number 5 gives Intels answer to the long running question whether the 1101 or the 3101 was Intels first product.
Pic 35 - a badly chipped C8080A-1, I like it though;-)
Thanks much for sharing these Pictures.

I was expecting to have to take out a 2nd mortgage after plundering the gift shop. Let's just say, I still have a roof over my head. The shop was fairly small and seemed to be geared mainly towards kids. As one would expect, lots of Intel logoed shirts, caps, bags, and trinkets such as bill folds, laser pointers, bunny men, etc...
There was NOTHING in the way of vintage chips to purchase save for a couple of books that outlined the same old history. I'm thinking to myself, "Come on, something...anything...help us out here! I must be missing something like the 2nd floor or a vault. This is insulting to all the Silicon Valley millionaire geeks who don't have time to scrounge for chips on Ebay!"
I circled the store a few times and even asked the clerk where the "good stuff" was. All I got was a puzzeled look.
If you look at their website, the pic on their homepage is pretty much all there is. Even worse, if you look at what they are selling online, that's pretty much what is available in the store.

Anyway, I salvaged the day by heading over to San Francisco to hang out with the sea lions and freaks on Peir 39.

haha, pier 39, i had a crab sandwich near the sea lions over there in '91.
no intel museum near this point at that time.
what a pity! i hoped YOU to sell a bunch of cheap grey 4003 here soon:-(
but it is as everywhere. t-shirts and caps - what a shame!
i am still convinced they have a good count of nice stuff on their "attic".
but on the other hand only a white 4004 in the exhibition and not even a plastic mcs-4 set:-/ |

I would have loved to crack the Busicom open to see if they had a complete set in there!

edited because of the f**cking bberry;-)
ive seen a cpu-board:
it contains the - as far as i investigated - original mcs-4 set:
a C4004 and the others in plastic.
there are three 4003, one 4002-1, four 4001 and the grey 4004.
NO 4002-2.
I don't remember where, maybe at cpu-moseum.com
anyhow, i've felt like you if i'd have been there.
it this a continuing exhibition?
or will it end soon?

You would think they would have popped that out and put it on display as opposed to the plain vanilla 4004. |

good to know, so then I have the chance to see it sometimes.
As every second year my User Group Meeting is in the US and this year's was in Washington at the Washpost- where I met Genna:-))) - maybe the LA Times will host the next one in 2008 - or how far is the Arizone Republic? I should have a look on google earth.
It should also be near to Huntington Beach to pick up some chips with free shipping:-)
Did they give any information for immediate feedback?
Maybe we could spam them for selling vintage chips.
I am sure we get a volunteer for a group buy! |
