I bought NKK NR4700LCG-100. Never seen before MIPS from NKK but I think it isn't rare just uncommon. What you think ?

I think it's rare. I only saw a few of them.

I thought uncommon means not popular and rare ... hmmm ... something what is more than not popular Laughing

I think it was pulled from computer. I bought it with 10 others scrap cpus - just only for that one NKK Smile Well I see it was worth.

Thanks

For me uncommon is somewhere in between rare and common. For example:
Intel 80486DX2-66 - common
Intel 486DX25 with old logo - uncommon, but not rare
Intel 80486 ES - rare

polish version of these words are more precise. In my native language this is more understandable and difference between them is more viewable than in english from that what I see.

I guess I view it like Gennadiy's example. Smile

But they are very similar words:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/rare
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/uncommon

I guess my interpretation of the word "uncommon" is ... uncommon Smile We need to come up with a rarity factor, that is easy to understand and easy to measure. I have one idea which I will post in a separate thread.

John's is in perfect condition, 9 week later produced and have other symbol at bottom left. Different symbols I remember from Motorola. I think that is some kind of identyfying of date code because I suspect there wasn't more than 1 factory producing 4700 of NKK in Japan.

I agree with Genna's definition of "rare" and "uncommon". I have several chips which I consider uncommon, as they are not common.
