Same here. Always on, its just a update or a software installation that makes a reboot necessary. _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

| I turn mine off when I am done each day. On all my computers I also have one of those power bars with a hot socket connected to the computer PSU. It kills all power to everything else plugged into the strip when the PC is off. |

I turn mine off each night to save power too. Since some years, in Europe there are a lot of ecological politics and there is a huge work to do in peoples' minds
Last year was very very important in this field and a lot of people try to reduce their energy consumption now.

full ACK
power saving is important and easy to realize.
Our home server is an old IBM Thinkpad 240 which consumes about 9 Watt. The server is runnung 24x7 for ssh, ftp, backup ...
Our working systems are also two IBM Thinkpads. One consumes about 20 Watt, the other one about 15 Watt.
In the night the laptops are always in suspend mode and all other devices via multiple socket switch complete powerless. _________________ best regards borris

I turn off my main computer every night.
My firewall / file server is on since about 200 days. I turn it off only for maintenance purposes. Linux is a quite stable OS, which desn't need reboots
I fitted it with Geode NX 1750+ and a 2.5" HD, that's why it consumes only 30W (about 50W @ full load). |

Currently only a few days up-time due to updates. I've had up to 2 months with this Win 2K system.
I hope soon to have a system set up that can stay connected for years at a time (going to be setting up at least one PC with Linux, one with Solaris, an IBM RS6000 that will have AIX, a couple of DEC systems and a couple of Sun systems all with various flavours of Unix). _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

These low power setups are the way to go for P2P servers, etc. I need to start on one. I am using a Dell server for my P2P server and it is a energy hog. |

only one thing in my home works 24h per day 365days per year without turning off - dsl wifi accesspoint router. My main PC is so ANTI ENERGY EFFICIENT and works only when I need it. VIA C3 PC which I use for P2P I turn on for some weeks about few times per year.
But at work I have small dell server on PII 400 (i440BX and XP) and it have up time about 90 days _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |
