I modified the forum to automatically block all IP addresses that attempt to post spam. To determine whether a posted message is a spam or not the code uses spamassassin-like rules - all messages that exceeds certain threshold are considered spam, and the IP address of the poster is blocked. The block is temporary and it prevents only posting, but not reading, of the messages. Hopefully this will reduce the number of spam messages even further.
PM or e-mail me (info at cpu-world dot com) if you have any problems with this new feature. Oh, and don't try to test it by posting spam with a bunch of links - you can block your IP address this way

yes, effective measures should be taken to prevent spams.
I saw several spams posted here yesterday. _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

In a forum of China, a new user must reply an old topic if he/she want to post a new topic.
I think this is good idea to anti spams. _________________ Yan |

Yep, incredible. Not pub, only "iubhzfduvolufzb", just to give work to moderators... pitiful. _________________ My microprocessor collection: The Gecko's CPU Library |

It may take a day or so before new feature will become effective. Tonight I will also add a few additional anti-spam rules - to cut down on cheap hotel spam.

Won't this cause unnecessary 'bumping' of topics? |

It can also cause topic hijacking. Anonymous posters cannot post links now, and, I think, we shouldn't restrict anonymous posters even further.
I added more rules earlier today. So far my script blacklisted about 150 IP addresses. I hope we'll see less spam tomorrow.

I've made even more changes to the forum. Hopefully it doesn't break anything. Please post or PM me if you notice anything unusual.

Yes, that too. It seems that this change confused almost all spam bots, now their spam submission rate is much lower than before I made that change.
