I didn't expect that high. I wanna reminder the bidders be more calm. Thanks a lot anyway!!
I will ship this via EMS while charging regular shipping fee.

The purple C4040ES on ebay is in poor condition - chipped and badly scratched - probably why no one has bought it for the US$1000 asking price. There is also another C4040 that LZF is trying to sell for US$600, but you can hardly see the writing. Hugo's "normal" C4040 is in good condition, so I expect he will get a good price for it.

I didn't want to say it isn't worth it.
It is just interesting that there are collectors able and willing to spend much money on chips. But there is a big difference in the decision what to buy.
Actually a chip that is known in a quantity of 50 to 100 goes high IF it is in perfect condition,
A chip that is known in the quantity below 5, but not white, not mint, but still the sae type, doesn't.

Yes it is very interesting what drives the prices of various chips.
Looking at ebay sales of C4004s shows the rapid ramp up in price over the past couple of years (I'm kicking myself I wasn't collecting a coupe of years ago). It will be interesting to see where prices go over the next couple of years. I guess as collectors buy the surplus rare chips, they will get locked away so it will get harder and harder to find the very rare ones.
I still think as the years go by, there will be more chip collectors around and prices for the rarer chips will go up a lot

I used to think the same thing but think right now is a great time to be collecting. Granted some of the high profile chips may go for alot but otherwise there are some great deals to be had out there whether it be Ebay or other sources. My point is, don't feel like you have missed something Smile

I don't know why but I'm sure that auction won someone from outside of this forum. I'm right ?

Congrats Smithy....I guess the state of the economy doesn't scare you...?

This Thanksgiving weekend ended up with many Ebay bargains on desirable chips and boards.
