to be honest id disagree, i think you would be cutting your nose to spite your face.
I think people find or collect these things, get your opinion on them and generally sell them to your members or at least let you know they would be auctioning them.
If i was to be a serious collector of these it would be good for me to have the heads up that people would be for example putting these on ebay or wherever.
If not for your honest and open opinion people just wouldnt bother posting here and you may well miss the oportunity to purchase these items. Allthough i do agree it would raise the prices of these things, the value of something is always what someones willing to pay for it in any collection be it cpu's or art/cars w/e.
just putting in my 2 cents worth so to speak
I may well put this cpu on ebay and let you all know the auction number. whereas before posting here none of your members would know there was going to be an auction for this cpu.
I would like to thank you all for your time you seem to be quite a nice community! (which for a forum is refreshing).
Now before i throw any of my older kit out i will post in these forums and see if any of you lot would like some of it.
Thanks jason. |

Of course it is good that people dig up an old CPU, come here and realise it is worth *something* and decide to sell it.... but not at the 'toplist' price! Quite often they probably don't take into consideration the condition either.
It is true that 'things are only worth what you are willing to pay'... but once a certain chip has a particular price attached to it from a one-off auction (which we know people go crazy on, just to win it), all other items seem to have that price as the starting price. That harms things for both sides; buyer doesn't sell the item and instead scraps off all their other stock because its not worth it to keep on listing these things, and seller either ends up paying more than an item is really worth, or can't afford it, so misses out.
Auctions really are strange things... the winner is actually the loser because they paid more than the majority values the item at! |

I agree with Donutty. While I appreciate the ability to view historical pricing I dont think it should be publicly available. The seller seeing some of these prices before completely understanding the market does nothing but hurt both sides.
It is so sad to see some of these beautiful chips site there for weeks, months and years
Like those poor Nexgen browntops....they need a home. |

List removed.
For now, if anyone needs data on a specific chip, PM me. _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

Hipflask, I don't agree with you about people not finding it on ebay. Most collectors and forum members scour ebay on a daily basis looking for chips, so most of us would see it if you listed it.
As a general comment, anyone who is not a collector and who wants to sell them has two options:
- work out what you want for them and offer them for sale in the forum here...more than likely you will sell them straight away
- stick them on ebay and take your chances...you might get lucky, or we might get lucky. I've picked up some ES on ebay for under $10...
I always liked the list of top ebay prices, but I agree that it should include all auctions (not just minimum number of bids). Why not make the list available in the group buy section of this forum, so "real" members can keep up to date with what is going on without alerting others to the state of the market or pushing prices up? Or at least put a link in the group buy section (or a new section?) _________________ My former Intel collection:

In my opinion, the ebay top list is helpful and informative for me. I dont think it will has some negative influence such as to increase our collecting cost. When bidding I reply more on my interestes and financial budget not on the ebay top list. _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

I have always liked the toplist, I say leave it up and lets just try to improve it, Maybe to reflect a more realistic price trend for chips, loosen up the restrictions and I will personally scour ebay and add chips to it. I just dont think the general public realizes it is a Top List not an avage price list for chips. If when they view it they see prices and pictures of the actual chips sold and the money spent on them , maybe they would understand the difference between a $50 chip and a $1000 chip. And since I have no idea how to code or anything I am more than happy to submit all the chips I track on ebay every day. Which I can say is alot _________________ "The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once." A.E. |

I wasn't suggesting the list be removed, I also think it very useful, but as a guide for collectors, rather than for sellers _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

My thought as well. Guide should be available just not to anyone. I like the idea of having it behind closed doors.
Also have to say thanks for all of Thomas's hard work in gathering this data. |
