Hi Paolo,
I have one TDM chip similar to MITE2,
it reads on front
TDM CIA2
124582 A00-00
TC180GJ4YH-0020
Do you have any information about it?
Thanks in advance,
Billy

Hi,
it's the same kind of ASIC: Toshiba gate array, up to 560K usable gates (CMOS). The first line, TDM CIA2, denotes the customer/owner of the ASIC's logic scheme (TDM, maybe Tandem Computer or something similar) and the specific chip's function (CIA2). What's "CIA2"? I don't know! Usually these are acronyms for the ASIC function/purpose. The second line is the "generic" component name, that is the name of the gate array in itself: every gate array of this family (TC180G) has a similar name, regardless of its specific function.
This is a datasheet (family TC160G, similar but with less usable gates):
http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/T/C/1/6/TC160G.shtml.
In my previous post there is an error (my apologies!!!): Toshiba TC180G are 560K, not 18K gate arrays (0.5 microns, 3.3V operation, sea-of-gate layout).
IMHO this is an useful document for everyone interested in Toshiba's custom chips: http://www.cadfamily.com/download/EDA/MicroChip/CMOS%20ASIC.Design.Manual.pdf.

i am sure they for test but not sure if they are sample or not
here is the story
2 years ago , i bought a bundle of chips from an engineer belonged to RD team of motherboard company )
including IBM 6x86 C4 sample , the blank 6x86, and several AMD /intel sample
he told me these chips were send to their team for test and after test they were stored in some closet
a few years later , their company was moving to a new house .
before they were sold for scrap , he picked up some
actually , he was quite astonished by the price i offered and sound very regreted that he didnt grasp more
although i am lucky to get about 20 chips from him. , i still feel sad about those chips scraped ( actually most of the chips they tested were scrapped)... |

Hi lither, thanks for the info.
The code on the bottom of my IBM blank code is different from yours, mine is:
"971127 "
"258F"
so production code is 1997 11th week? the format is different from other IBM 6x86.
Maybe Neon_WA know more details
Yes, I am also very regreted that had not grabed the whole lot (as the seller did not send me photos of the whole lot.., missed quite a lot sample chips ) _________________ **********************
