You'd have to be pretty good with a grinder to get that good an edge! The fakers never did get doing the print right, the font, colour, depth and distance between letters is never quite right. Of course, back then, nobody would have known the difference.

Exactly!
It takes a Forensic pro (like Neon-WA) to find these clues years after the fact. Surprised
The original buyers of these "fakes" didn't stand a chance. Embarassed

if it is a fake.. its a good one

i do have a couple of concerns. If you able to take a pic of just the area i have marked, it may decide it one way or another.

If you can take the pic in natural light & not use a flash.. it makes it easier to see faults

I suspect the P90 of billy is a fake. look at the markings at the bottom of the second picture.
it seems some abnormally mixed-color paint there.

and the marking of the first picture is abormal as well.

i dont have a problem with the die cap having two styles of printing.

The part number & sSpec are printed at a different time from all the other information printed on the die cap.
so you will always get some variation between the two.

I look more at the print shape & spacing as each plant has its own style.

SX957 is famous for being remarked

Here is mine..

Note the bottom cap looks genuine, but the top of the chip has certainly been ground down and remarked, yes it is possible they remarked it back to SX957. Who knows??

and SX958 less common fake..
