Thanks for the positive replies. It's reassuring to know it's not just me that is concerned about the potential damage done by poor packaging. I sometimes feel like I'm the only collector to want her chips to be in working order Smile

amazed that people here are that stupid. I have bought off just about every regular user here aswell. Perhaps you should email the seller? Who is it anyway. I'm sure they won't do it again.

I have sent him a PM, which is why I won't name him. I'm sure he will avoid it in the future, and didn't realise what would happen, I just want to be sure that others are aware and avoid the same mistakes.

That was me. I see discussion was on air when I was away Wink I will turn back money for you or send you other good CPUs - we will talk about that via PM. My source of antistatic coat was end before left to Cebit. I tried satisfy you with fast delivery - my fault I could wait 3 max 4 weeks and send after I got coat. I used tape because I receive hundreds of CPUs packed with only tape. Never had problem with missing printing. To today I don't believe that can be true - not offence only my opinion. I would like to ask you Debbie to show pictures of demaged CPUs lets show others How they looks like. Anybody else had problems with my packing ? except one Mixeur as I remember Siemens C8086-2 - not straight pins.

OK, here's the best pictures I can take at the moment. They are not very good, but they are good enough to see what print is lifted by using packing tape on them.

The originals, as they were when I bought them, are:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6844436432
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6841295741
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6844439388

You'll note that most of the text was present on the Media GX processor, but is now most is missing. Even though I bought that one to test my cpuid code on, it would still be nice to know it's in the condition I bid on, as after testing (even if it didn't work, as the auction didn't say it's functional) it would be part of my collection.

The Blue lightning had all the print intact, but now it is not complete. I wouldn't have bought that with any print missing as I already had one that was intact and wouldn't buy a second that was not.

The 486DLC/E had all the print intact. It now has most of the "4", part of the G and all of the A missing from the "40GA" part of the part number. My complaint on that one was only that it is not in the condiotion I bought it in, and it's the tape which did that, it's not as bad as the other two, and the Media GX, which is my first of the type, is the worst. I would possibly have bought the 486DLC/E like that as it's mostly intact, the point was that I didn't buy it like that.

As I have said previously, I would not have said all this on the forum, out of respect for you, but as you asked me to post pictures I have done so and described the specific damage caused by putting packing tape directly on the print of that sort of processor.

I'll discuss with you via PM how we proceed from here. It's not like it's a major issue, I merely wanted to know that people are aware not to pack chips like that (if some people are OK with it, then it's fine for their chips, but not for chips I buy, I consider it to cause damage and have now shown what the damage is).

Here is a USA source for BIG Shocked anti-static foam pieces. Has anyone found it any cheaper? I just received the 72" (approx. 2 meters) piece from this company and have put it in the bottom of my collection storage boxes to house the whole collection in ESD foam and have scraps left over for when I sell/trade chips Very Happy

I use a company called static specialists in New York. They are a bit cheaper.

I just realised I said I'd post here when the replacement chips came, but completely forgot - it's important that everyone else who has or had concerns knows that they are being dealt with and are not being ignored.

Marcin sent me chips to replace those which were mentioned here, and has also been doing what is needed in order to offer improved packaging to those of us who ask for it. Thanks Marcin Smile
