Run it from within Windows again, but next time, right click the executable and select "run as administrator"

Something is wrong with the WinFlash utility, it's probably incompatible with Windows 10 for all I know.

Download Rufus 3.13 (https://rufus.ie/) and burn the .iso onto any USB flash drive that you have. Make sure that the partition scheme is selected as 'MBR' and the target system is selected as 'BIOS'.

The filesystem should be either FAT16 or FAT32 depending on your USB flash drive's capacity. As long as it doesn't use a fancy filesystem like NTFS or exFAT, it should work.

A small thought: is there an option in the BIOS that allows you to change the boot mode? If there is such an option, select 'Legacy BIOS' or anything similar to it. Don't select UEFI or UEFI+CSM, those won't work right with an ancient DOS update utility.

Once you're done with the BIOS update, and assuming that such an option exists in your BIOS, switch it back to whatever it was previously.

Looks like your Satellite U500 doesn't have an option for selecting UEFI or BIOS mode. Well, ignore it. I think you're fine as long as the 'Boot Speed' option isn't set to 'Fast'.

No, don't. That will prevent you from booting into the USB flash drive.

You need to leave it as it is, as in don't change it.
