I've never heard of any problem with packages addressed to me in the United Kingdom. However, if that is shortened to just "UK", it could end up in the Ukraine, so that could be a part of the reason why USPS recommend against it (or actually ban the use, even though it is the technical name for the country, according to many sources).

Personally I don't recognise international borders (we are all equal, and only man puts up those barriers), and only use country names to avoid packages getting lost
