My Gigabyte manual suggests the 1st and 3rd OR 2nd and 4th RAM slots to acheive 'dual channel memory mode' operation.

I have a GA-P35-DS3R rev 2.0 motherboard. If the BIOS settings are the same as a P31 board, these settings should work with an Intel e2160 CPU, and allow a clock speed of 3.0GHz and 1333FSB; with stock cooling. At idle the clock speed drops to 2.0GHz (Speed Step).

In BIOS, under MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.):

Robust Graphics Booster - Auto
CPU Clock Ratio - 9X
CPU Host Clock Control - Enabled
CPU Host Frequency (MHz) - 333
PCI Express Frequency (MHz) - Auto
C.I.A.2 - Disabled
System Memory Multiplier - 2.40 (Gives a RAM frequency of 800MHz)
High Speed DRAM DLL Settings - Option 1
Performance Enhance - Standard
System Voltage Control - Auto

I've tried numerous combinations of the above settings, some successful, some not. Check out this link also: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/09/12/pentium_dual_core/

Reading it prompted me to order a Gigabyte board, Intel e2160, and Corsair PC2 6400 XMS2 RAM (2 x1GB) the next day.

Some experts recommend running a system stability/stress test for as long as reasonably possible to 'burn in' the new components at the BIOS default settings. I'm a fence sitter on this subject. I did not do this when I built this system, but have burned in others for at least 24 hours.

Brilliant!!!!
I'm cooking now, I can can o/c okay exept the ram is first to fail as of now i'm approx 833mhz ram 3ghz cpu with pcie locked at 100mhz and stress testing is going v.well. No over-volting as yet and temps are low although the cpu fan is actually spinning now!!!

I've tried so many different combinations that I've stopped writing them down. I leave the PCI setting in BIOS on auto because I'm experimenting with NVidia's nTune utility for overclocking the video card. I'm no gamer (yet????) so I only have an XFX 7600 GS PCI-e x16 card.

As for the CPU fan, I have all the fancy motherboard heat/load/barometric pressure/sunspot activity/(etc.) control monitors disabled and run it wide open all the time. I'm not a nut about the slight bit of barely audible noise emitted by cooling fans running full tilt.

I've had my (800MHz) RAM near 900MHz with no problems, but Corsair is developing a reputation for *&^%$#@! quality and reliability so I've backed it down to at or near 800MHz.

I recently bought 2 x 1GB of Corsair PC2 8500 (1066MHz) RAM in anticipation of my next upgrade to an Intel e8400 CPU. The RAM is junk. After numerous emails to, and receiving useless one-liner answers from Corsair's 'RAM Guy' (who couldn't find his hindend with both hands), I threw the *&^%$#@! in the trash. I use OCZ RAM in one of my other computers, and will be buying some version of their '1066' for use with the e8400.

Happy O/C'ing.............

I concur, my Corsair memory is the weak link in this system. After many tries to overvolt and get a stable system - ITS A WASTED EFFORT. I should have spent the extra cash for some better/faster modules. But WASAD it was a budget setup and for £400 (dvd/cd drive, case, PSU, ArcticCooler etc.....all except moniter) I'm chuffed to bits. I'm currently on with o/c the 9600gt (XXX) and its going well, Im hitting 11,000ish in 3DMark06 with room to go yet.

Yorz fayffully,

Hahahaha, though I knew my choice of video card was NOT capable of doing the current crop of games justice, I chose it because gaming is way down on my 'list'. The 3DMark score for a GeForce 7600GS card is so bad I would never make it public. The top scores worldwide are very impressive, huh?? As for your setup, 11K+ with room for improvement is nothing to sneeze at, good job.

I have a now unused 7600gt which will probably go into a rig that I'll sell to get some cash back on the upgrade. Its a excellent card (and the GS) for playing any games so long as they are not DX10 and you use a low res (1024x768). I was very impressed with Oblivion even on high settings solong as the res was kept down.

As for the 3DMark06 Benchmark it was pants, I cant remember the figure now but it made no difference to me because at least I could run any game going even if it was'nt at max settings.

Right, back to a bit of naughty O/Cing devilment! If I dont reply its because my GFX card went supernova!!!!

Hey...just wondering if the use of SLI will make a diffenrence in the O/C'ing of the processor? Will I still get STABLE results?

Thanks...in advance... Smile

jankoji5, you'll probably get more and better responses if you start a new thread instead of sticking your question on the tailend of an unrelated subject. icon_poke
