Hey all!
My problem is that my MSI motherboard WON'T allow me to change MULTIPLE settings...in voltage , ;For the CPU; For the Memory; and, for the NB (I think)...
Would this be considered a DEFECTIVE Motherboard...I have Upgraded the BIOS, aand, still the SAME problems???
I your opinion, should I RMA the board?
Thanks,...In advance...
Me
P.S. I have MSI's <Core Center> application, too...but, it willNOT install properly, on this Mobo.
Bye for now...

I don't think the motherboard is defective. IMHO you should read the BIOS's / motherboard manual first!
Many settings are set automatically by BIOS. You won't be able to change them unless you turn on the manual configuration mode.
Unfortunately I can't tell you how turn the manual mode on. Each BIOS version has it's own name for such settings. You will find the required information in the motherboard manual. |

I have done this...EXHAUSTIVELY. If fact, the manual says...."CPU and PCIE to be controlled under D.O.T. (Dynamic Overclocking Technology) is an automatic overclocking function designed to detect the load balance of CPU and PCIE while running programs..."
I have yet to see using the "D.O.T." UNGRAY out any of the voltages settings.??? I will look for THE METHOD of manual configuration mode...but, for some reason, I think MSI built this Mobo NOT to have one.
I, though, hope for my sake, that I'm WRONG _________________ All these Moments in Time Will Be Lost, Like Tears in The Rain...Roy-to-Deckard "BLADE RUNNER" |

Perhaps you should try to deactivate this "D.O.T." or set it to "expert" mode or something like it.
"Expert" means you will have the full control of all the settings. |

I can't get a screen shot of my BIOS unless there's a way of opening it while I'm in windows. Where do I go to adjust the timings?

Here's a screen shot I found online of what my BIOS looks like.
That's the main menu.
The cell menu has the options for Memory voltage, mine is grayed out like this one is, but says auto instead. |

I saw the "Advanced DRAM configuration" sub-menu in the "cell" menu.
What happens if you go there?
- Perhaps you should also try to change "FSB/Memory Ratio" setting. If you change it the "memory voltage" setting may become unlocked.
- The "cell" menu has more avaliable settings that shown on the picture. Perhaps you will find something useful there.
- The "Advanced BIOS Features" in the main menu of BIOS can also contain the desired settings.
A last question - do you have a brand computer like HP, DELL, IBM or something like it? Most brand PC models have "castrated" motherboards |

I don't think that THIS is a TYPE of BIOS.
The Voltage settings, on one of my OTHER Mobos...<AsRock> has the MEMORY/CPU/NB voltages "settable"...(not just "READABLE")...
Just my two-cents worth. _________________ All these Moments in Time Will Be Lost, Like Tears in The Rain...Roy-to-Deckard "BLADE RUNNER" |

| I built my own computer, I have a "NVIDIA nForce 680i Motherboard, Intel's Core 2 Quad Q6700 processor, and a KFA2 GeForce 8600 GT Video Card". I am running Windows XP pro, and I think that might be the BIG problem. I didn't know this before, but my friend told me that XP can't run a quad core processor to it's full advantage. I think I'll try and run Vista (and maybe even the 64bit version?) on my system instead, and I'll get back to you guys on the result. If this doesn't sound like a good idea, then please get back to me by the end of the week. |

xp cant run a q c processor?
false......please dont lisen evryone ....
xp can handle until 32 cores i think....
and the threating depends of the application u use...
for example a word pross programm only use one core...
if u are using "heavy" progs like image graphics and rendering can use all your cores to 100%...
so even u have turn to vista (x64 or not) u will dont see any difference!!! |

| Well, he said that it will run, but because quad core was made after XP while dual core was around, XP will treat a quad core like a dual core therefore not using the processor to it's full capacity. Do you know if this is true? What's the advantage of having a 64bit anyway? Are there any disadvantages? |

I have a q6600 and ran it on XP and can use 100% of all four cores depending on the program, What youre friend is saying is most definatly FALSE !!!
If you would like to prove it to him or yourself, just run a program like Prime 95 that will actually use all four cores. Heresa link to get it.
http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=205
And i just downloaded youre motherboard manuel, i think youre correct that you can not adjust the voltages anywhere, not for the CPU not for the memory not for the northbridge , nada nothing at all. The only thing you may want to try is to load the optimized defaults, which i doubt will help but its easier then returning youre memory and getting some that run at the motherboards spec of 1.8v.
Also i see that if you click the link to the ocz memory configurater it doesnt work so i cant say for sure if youre nice sli memory is going to work well in this board. I doubt it tho from the trouble youve been having so far. _________________ "The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once." A.E. |

| OK, I ran Prime95 during the night, but when I turned my computer back on in the morning, I was greeted with a blank blue screen. I think it only ran for 2 hours. Overheating? |

| Well, never mind. I guess my computer doesn't like Prime95 because I've been greeted with blue screens whenever I do anything, so I uninstalled it and everything works fine. |
