"35% HCL Hydrochloric then dilute 1 part acid to 5 parts water"
Stu's recipe calls for HCL which is Hydrochloric acid. 35% HCL
can be found at your local hardware store. It's normally used
as a concrete cleaner and I buy it as muriatic acid.
Just please be careful with it as it burns skin, eyes, clothes, etc.
and you don't want to breathe it in great quantities just like
you don't want to breathe the gasoline fumes when pumping
petrol into your car or truck. So wear protective gloves, glasses,
old clothing when using it full strength. You know, read the fine print
on the bottle! |

what fine print
You can make it even more dilute.. just takes a bit more time
Points to keep in mind
never leave on chip than a few minutes before washing off
if solder scrapes are still there... repeat again
keep solution away from any gold plating that has bubbled from corrosion underneath
avoid solder as it will turn dark and dull with too much contact with the acid
I keep my scrap processor to try new techniques, as some are better than others depending on the issue _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

I wonder you put the whole chip into the solution for a minutes or only use the solution to work on the top side? _________________ **********************

Only if you want to do gold recovery put the whole chip in the solution
I work on only one side at a time
I use a small strip of "chux" cloth dipped in the acid solution and trail it over the ceramic surface.
I use NO pressure and rub the surface of the chip. A soft artist's paint brush could work well also.
If I wanted to remove pen marks.. I would use a technique like Naked lists on his site.
On the bottom it is a bit harder to clean the ceramic in between the pins, but I use a soft tooth-brush with long bristles to apply the acid solution _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:
