Only DNS root servers are managed by US, and if I'm not mistaken they're managed by Network Solutions, which is a private company. Internet by itself is not managed or controlled by US government.

You're probably right about Network Solutions owning DNS root servers, but the U.S Government tells them how to direct their traffic. So I guess that means they do control the internet. _________________ http://www.RareCPUs.com

Because, 20Mb is for big cities only.
Moreover, this price (15€) is only for 6 first month and doesn't include modem location, unlimited phone, TV,... etc.
With everything, it is more likely 30€/month in France... |

Ah, now I understand better what you are saying. I think we have both read the same basic information but have interpreted it defferently. On the link you provide above it says:
"At issue is who would have ultimate authority over the Internet's master directories, which tell Web browsers and e-mail programs how to direct traffic."
"That role has historically gone to the United States, which created the Internet as a Pentagon project and funded much of its early development. The U.S. Commerce Department has delegated much of that responsibility to a U.S.-based private organization with international board members, but Commerce ultimately retains veto power. "
How I read that, the US government commerce department have ultimate power over the master DNS directories, retaining the power of veto. I don't see anything that indicates that they ever use that power, only that there is concern that some future government would be in a position to put restrictions in force that would affect how we would or would not be able to acess certain areas of the internet. So the statement that the US governemtn tells Network Solutions how to direct traffic is not strictly speaking true, they only have the power to do so if they were to choose to. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Verisign operates the master root server ("root-server A"), which is in influence of the U.S. department of commerce.
But there is an alternative root-system in europe for the case that the conection to U.S. fails.

Another classic example of how the US thinks they need to control the world. Im just waiting for the US to piss someone off powerful enough to have a go back, like china..
TBH if the US did turn off the root DNS servers there would be backups switched on all over the world within hours. The worlds govenments wouldnt allow the US to do such a thing. So I think its more like USA 1 - 1 Everyone else _________________ CPU-Me! Hippo's Collection Online |

| Interesting news story this morning about South America. It's a kettle on the hot plate, and someone is trying to flick the power switch. |

Is this going to turn into a Redneck battle for supremacy? OR is it the Cold War starting up all over again? _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

ADSL + DELL Power connect 2224:
Port Attributes
24 10/100BASE-T auto-sensing Fast Ethernet ports
Auto-negotiation for speed, duplex mode and flow control
Auto MDI/MDIX
Performance
Switching capacity 4.8 Gbps
Up to 8,000 MAC addresses
Quality of Service
2 priority queues per port, Weighted Round Robin (WRR) Scheduling
Honors IEEE 802.1p values
Does the trick for me, cause I've got 4 PC's on the go in my gaming room for multiplayer games(me & my buddies) + I got 2 more in the living room for my wife and I/kids and finally, one more(My server). I find that there is no lost in speed at all, works good and it's cheap.
My Network Server is Alliant.I'm contracted with Ultra-Highspeed.
