If they did that then I believe that eBay would suffer and I think they would be very well placed to do so.

For a marketplace that could make sense, but for auctions, you get a better sale price if there are more bidders. So they would have a hard time convincing people to list while they were building their userbase. That's part of why all of eBay's competitors failed in the first place.

EBay IS trying to get away from auctions though, thats part of their whole move to Catalog based listings, they want to compete with Amazon, its starting to leave true one of a kind auctionable stuff homeless

Not all,
They never got a foothold in New Zealand as Trademe was already established when they tried to and has done particularly well.
A lot of Aussie Sellers are using it now.

I'm glad they haven't got a stranglehold everywhere, but I think that helps make my point. No matter who you are, it's hard to overturn the incumbent when its users benefit from maintaining its large user base. Paypal would have an up hill battle on auctions anywhere where there is a well established auctions site -eBay or otherwise.

I think we need our own auction site for collectable computer hardware. Shouldn't be very difficult to set up since AVICC can serve payments already and escrow shouldn't be a problem.

Appeared here, offered some stuff, was very communicative and nice via PM until I sent $60. From then she did not pick up PMs any more and did not react to anything. Silence since three weeks. I opened a PayPal case.

Will keep you posted.

Got my money back. As she did not respond to my PayPal claim and I then escalated to PayPal and she did not react to their messages they decided for my favor:-)

MOD Comment:

I just removed an inflammatory comment and replies that came about as a result, with the friction they generated. Please try and keep the forum friendly. We are all here because we share a common interest - we are all collectors and/or traders.

https://www.ebay.com/str/electromyne

this seller likes to advertise cheaper chips (usually sourced from poland) then change the price when you buy them

bought some nice Intel RAM, 9 euros, seller send invoice, and shipping invoice, then 2 hours later.

Sorry we cannot sell these to you unless you pay 28 euro each and canceled my order

https://www.ebay.com/usr/chipart

Just in general a jerk seller

1: Will not allow international buyers (will ban you if you try, even through AVICC)

After buying hundreds of dollars of chips from them (and selling them test boards) they sent me an incorrect chip, no problem, it happens (so I thought). They refused to pay to return it, then banned me from their auctions (and my wifes account too)
