You are talking about the Wiki and yes it does not have to be pics.
What im saying is that the PICTURE LIBRARY of known cpus (prints, markings, color etc.) which started this thread does not seem possible since i get no response from those who own the pictures.

You can use my pictures I wouldn't mind posting them either although I am told they are rather big... I don't see me writting any articles anytime soon though as I am probably the dumbest person in the forum. I don't need anyone agreeing with me on this point...

ironic that you have one of the most hideously huge collections about then. _________________ 4000+ chips.

Like ten thousand spoons, when all you need is a knife.
As for the picture library, have faith. Just becuase they don't respond now doesnt mean they're the only person in the world with a particular chip or that they won't jump in later. In the mean time, you guys should help me out ive been writing alllll this content |

Hey Thomas. Sorry for not answer to question in PM. You can use my pictures to library. Old ones are in bad quality because I had badly digital camera. New ones are better so maybe you will need to use them _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

Thomas,
You might get more responces after you show how the pictures will be used and how the owner will be credited - by having a working version of the picture library. Also, if you allow picture owners to upload the pictures they want to contribute, rather than asking for general permission for ALL their photos, then the owner feels like they have more control. Many website owners have put MANY hours of work into taking the pictures and may have some concerns about giving permission to use any and all of their photos with no time limits and without a clear idea of the limits of how the photos will be used. Only for the picture library? or maybe more (money making) ideas later?

Absolutely fair questions.
As i wrote in my first post my initial idea was to create this offline for my own use. But as with my own collection i put it online just so i can reach it from work or friends or whenever im unsure of what chips i got in the collection. So my intention is to share pictures. But as with all copyrighted work i will not use ANY pictures without permission from owner.
If i get it running it will NEVER be a moneymaking site (i personally hate those ad-cluttered sites where the only goal is to display banners) I have a steady job and a good salary and have no intention or need to make any money online (and i think the amount of work you need to put in to make money is not worth it.) Not saying that there never will be Google-ads to pay for bandwidth or disk. But if bandwidth or disk will be the problem, that might be a positive problem.
I have OK from some collectors here now, enough to get started, and as you say, if i can show what i mean others perhaps will follow.
The design is not ready yet. If there will be any design at all at first. Im leaning towards using a plain Dalbum or Tigra Menu for a simple catalog structure which can handle loads of pictures. Uploading features is on the list.
Copyright info will be displayed either as a watermark (with originating domain) or a note at the side of each picture.
And before anything goes live all major contributors have to say go.
Give me a week or two and i will get back with a demo.

Looks like I picked a good time to register on here.
I've been collecting 386 and later processors from all manufacturers for a few years, and my collection started as a means for testing CPUID and other processor control code I started writing a few years ago. I just got back into building up my collection (with about 200 processors bought on eBay over the last couple of weeks) and have been working on my web pages.
My initial interest when I starting writing the CPU section of my site was anything that relates to programming (Identifying through code, optimising various processors, optimised routines for slow instructions, etc), but have also as a consequence decided to create a section showing all 386 and compatible processors I can get information on.
This information will include all SSpecs, steppings, packaging, etc, with details of how to detect as many variants as possible through programming (all of which is done with x86 assembly language). I will be able to add any information that is considered relevant to the community web site when it gets underway (and when i have created enough of my own site to be able to transfer information).
I'll post details here when I have enough html to be worth uploading, along with long term web hosting space.

LOL
Well, these things will happen
I'm now looking for some (OK lots of) CPU trays to organise the 486/Pentium and similar sized processors, it'll be far more convenient than having everything in boxes and easier to see what I have.
I'm sure I bought a few duplicates at higher prices than I needed to pay. I'm now going to concentrate more on just buying job lots for a while (well, once I finish paying my bills for the current round of auctions - I've been waiting for a payment to clear in my bank and am lucky that sellers have been patient waiting longer than I planned for my payment). That way I'll get more items to trade (as well as some to resell on eBay as individual items if they are not the sort of chips people are loking to trade).

debs, those trays are hard to come by ive found
what works really well, especially for those chips, are empty cd jewel cases.. you can fit at least 4 of those per case, and with a cd rack, you can organize them very well.. just write on the end what they are..
much easier to organize and search than having to lift tray after tray off of eachother |
